Will an AMD sempron socket A work in a socket A motherboard that originally came with an Athlon XP2000+? and is the 2400+ sempron better for gaming than the 2000+?

Depends on the motherboard. Some have added support via BIOS update on newer chipsets.

Nope. You'd be better off finding a Barton 2500+ or better. They're still around if you know where to look.

If the board does 333 fsb then yes.

Don't go for a sempron. Mobile Athlon is the way to go if you wanna stick with socket A.

everyone is rught. the sempron with the socket A config uses the very old thourghbred core ( i butchered that spelling). the barton core is much more capable. besides, the barton has twice the L2 cache as the sempron.

i agree my brothers mobo + cpu died so he ordered me a 2500xp-m + he bought himself a nf7s + i swapped my 2800xp (t-bred) for his 2500xp-m as he didnt want to upgrade his memory as well + i got pc3200.
now got this cpu running @ 2300mhz with zero problems 24/7.
it also added 1500 more points on 3d2k1 over the 2800

Go for the barton core .. they OC really nice if you get an unlocked one. Even locked .. you can do a FSB OC untill you hit the voltage limit (because voltage is also locked on the chip somehow)
