Default bad graphics: driver 6629, RIVA TNT2 card.

System is:

nVidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64 graphics card
Kernel 2.28
nVidia newest driver 6629
xorg
nForce2 chipset
VectorLinux v5.0-SOHO-rc2

X was working perfectly with base system without nVidia drivers (using "nv"). All went well with the nVidia installer, but on later booting into X all the graphics were screwed, overlayed images, bad lines, echoing mouse patterns, basically unusable and unreadable. I double checked my xorg.conf file: I had done all changes as stated in the README.

Any ideas on whre to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

This is a known problem with 1.0-6629 and some older GPU's; please downgrade to Linux 2.6.11 or use the XFree86/Xorg "nv" driver until an updated NVIDIA driver has been released.

Thanks for the info. I downloaded an older driver (from Jan 2004) and it worked just fine! Cheers...

That's good to hear. I'm sorry about the confusion, I meant downgrade to 1.0-6111 (or another older driver release), as you did.

Question Re: bad graphics: driver 6629, RIVA TNT2 card.

Hi Zander.
Do you have any concept how to start drivers 1.0-6111 with the kernel 2.6.10 ?
I use the TNT2 M64 with Slackware10 + 1.0-6111 + kernel 2.6.8.1.

Tnx
