Isn't SM 3.0 more of a performance thing than a visual one ? In Far Cry SM 3.0 does adds some Lighting effects but mostly increases FPS in some areas of the game.

AFAIK, thats not a correct statement. As I thought NV4x also supports all lower PS standards as well (which would then include PS2.0b). Anyways back on topic...

Sweet. I don't have BOOH (waiting to find a used copy) and I was wondering if I could use the patch on a regular PK install. Thanks!

It will apply to the original Pk but you wont take advantage of the SM3.0 support if you dont have BOOH .

Damm...

Just installed this but now it keeps asking for the correct CD.

In short you do need BOOH for this patch.

Sorry dude but I've just finished playing DM & the new CTF maps using 1.61 patch and the original PK - no issues at all - got all the nice bloom effects/heathaze etc and even got to play with some weapons that I have'nt seen before?? (must be taken from BOOH).

The 1.61 patch is meant for Painkiller & BOOH and works just fine without BOOH for me

check your install/CD etc etc

My installation is fine, I was playing the single player game, then decided to updated from 1.35 to 1.61 then bang... I launch the game and it moans about the correct CD

I either need BOOH, or this patch has blacklisted my version of Alcohol 120%. I will uninstall Alcy tommorow and try the other 2 PK discs. No big deal really as I have completed the game anyways

AFAIK SM3.0 has no graphical improvment in Pk ... it just might add a little performance for the chipsets that support it .

No, Its true, The Nv4x supports SM 2.0A standard as well. That doesnt make it anymore widely adopted.
