Their benchmarking is weird. It doesn't render all the effects, at least for me it doesn't (same on both systems also), so I'm not sure what the point is. At the beginning of the BOOH expansion I recorded a demo and the timedemo results for it were 125 fps avg. When playing that area, making the recording, etc. my framerates are around 30-50'ish.

Default Re: Painkiller BOOH 1.6.1 patch adds SM3.0 support?

Been playing around a bit more and found out a few interesting things, first off i uninstalled PK, defragged and reinstalled just Painkiller and updated it to version 1.35(last patch before 1.61), defragged and did some benchmarks, here's a few figures
PK ver1.35 @ 1280 x 1024, 4AA,8AF, Max Details.

Benchmark c5l1: 63.83, 63.84, 63.84 fps(reboots between all runs)

Benchmark c5l2: 37.20, 37.51, 36.97 fps

Now when you install PK: BooH it updates Painkiller to version 1.5 so i ran the same tests again with BooH installed, so here we go again:

Benchmark c5l1: 154.16, 154.76, 154.45 fps

Benchmark c5l2: 114.70, 111.54, 110.45 fps

Huge difference! You can see the visual difference between the two version(1.35, 1.5) if you look at the water in these four s/shots taken while running the benchmarks c5l2 and c5l1
c5l2 ver 1.35 Pic
c5l2 ver 1.5 Pic
c5l1 ver 1.35 Pic
c5l1 ver 1.5 Pic

Now for some in-game results, some surprises here too( all 4AA,8AF)
ver 1.35 = Painkiller + 1.35 patch
ver 1.50 = Painkiller + BooH
ver 1.61 = Painkiller + 1.61 patch

Cemetary ver 1.35: 138 fps Pic
Cemetary ver 1.50: 132 fps Pic
Cemetary ver 1.61: 97 fps Pic

Atrium ver 1.35: 202 fps Pic
Atrium ver 1.50: 251 fps Pic
Atrium ver 1.61: 117 fps Pic Quite a difference in lighting with ver 1.61

Catacombs ver 1.35: 190 fps Pic
Catacombs ver 1.50: 200 fps Pic
Catacombs ver 1.61: 121 fps Pic

These s/shots don't match up exactly because when you install BooH the position you're standing at changes even though you load up the same beginning of the level so i had to muck around a bit to line them up as best i could (Tip: when viewing the s/shots hit F11 to view Fullscreen, just found that out the other day)

A couple of BooH screenies: Looney Park, Orphanage

Thanks.
No, that isn't a fake, that screenshot has been taken from a CTF_trainstation MP map, they use blue/ice effects for the Blue team and red/fire effects for the Red team, DM maps don't use any effects at all.

When you install the 1.61 patch you use PK CD1 instead of PK CD3 when you want to play the game

Got it working very nicely now. I dont know what I done, I just set the main graphics to standard, ramped the res up to 1024*768 and its running super smooth

Anyway I played thru it last night and was a little disapointed it was only 10 levels. Was a nice exp pack in the end though.

For $19.95 the expansion pack is worth it IMO ,the game played fine I did'nt check the FPS but I don't rember haveing any slowdowns.I have'nt updated to the patch 1.6.1 yet because of my slow ass dialup.

Not to be rude, but I guess if you were expecting different IQ via this patch in SM3, then you were not expecting the right things. So far in every game we have seen that has a PS3.0 path, the same effects can be done in an SM2.0 path. Just that the SM3.0 is more efficent and can save work which usally = faster. I am not trying to downplay or say anything bad about PS3.0. Just saying for now the same IQ can be had in a PS2.0 path with some speed gains vrs when you compare SM3.0 vs SM2.0 path. we just dont know how much "some" is

Sure, but in Pacific Fighters, for example, the IQ for water is superior on the SM3...
