Exclamation nVidia on HP pavilion zv5000

I have been trying to get FC3 properly to work on my hp pavilion zv5000. If an use the built in "nv" driver, when I try to go to text mode it's like a scambled cable channel on my laptop. I can still type commands and go back to X but text mode doesn't work. On the other hand if I use the "nvidia" driver, the screen just goes white... yeah white! If I do ctrl+alt+backspace I get back to the terminal but it now looks like the brightness is turned up all the way and stays like that until I reboot. Has anyone gotten it to work or have any ideas what causes this problem. I have even tried building both a new kernel and nvidia driver... still does the same thing.

If it helps, my computer has a kind of opposite problem: with the 6629 version it locks hard with a completely black screen. I have tested various configurations (ancient versions of the kernel, ancient versions of the nvidia drivers, like 5336, 6106 or 6111), various boot parameters, various module parameters, but nothing helped. I decided to stick with the Xorg nv driver until the next release of the nvidia drivers.
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 2650, P4M @ 1.8 GHz, chipset i845, 512 MB RAM, nVidia Geforce 2 Go with 16 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD.
Software: BIOS A10 ( video BIOS), Fedora Core 4, Kernel 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4, Xorg 6.8.2, NVIDIA 7667 drivers.
