As an extreme example when you are unsuccessfully transported from Kliener's lab and end up outside. If I turn around and view the electrical structure behind the lab the frame rate is in the 20s but if I do a quick save and then reload I am at 100+. There are other instances where this occurs as well and it is kind of annoying since you never know when SLI is truly working or not.

I had this problem. But it happened in single and SLI mode. Just reloading the level fixed it.

Great Job and thanks for the info.
Good job indeed!
I'm not upgrading yet... who know's, maybe dual-CPUs with dual GPUs ( later on... ) , but this is the kind of information we are all looking for.

You kept me up another 20+ mins reading that fantastic information, thank you for your hard work, it was probably the most informative SLI review I have seen to date and has given me some faith in the technology -- I haven't been planning on upgrading to it anytime in the near future but now you've got me seriously thinking!

rockin indeed

Chris,

I would be interested in knowing what your extended in game settings were for your EQ bench. If you wouldn't mind, please bench North and East Freeport at generic "balanced" settings from the game options menu, then switch to "high quality". If it is too troublesome, or you were already using balanced, ignore the request and simply answer my question.

Very nice work. Thanks.

Told you about them Gigabyte boards, glad to see my opinion of Gigabyte wasn't that far off. See you switched to the Asus. Smart move.

Too bad there's no GF6800GT comparison to these results because I'm thinking the single card is still a better value proposition to those unwilling to upgrade within 3 months with eVGA and given that if you pay the same or less for the 6800GT, then you can later upgrade to another GT whereas if you've got two 6600's, well... the best you can do is sell the 6600's and upgrade after that.

I think most people with the same amount of cash would do better to get the same setup, buy a 6800GT, and then when everyone else is talking about the next nV chip, upgrade to another 6800GT to give yourself better performance than probably the new chip in a one card scenario.

It's a slightly modified Quality setup. I posted it over in the EQ 2 forums. But dont mind posting it here. Shadows simply have to stay off in this game if you want to play at any reasonable framerate.

Most important thing for me is the games not profiled.

Some games I play aren't on the list like World of Warcraft.

If i'm going to pay 1000 bucks for my video card, I want to get my money's worth.

Is it possible to write your own profile or do you just have to wait for nVidia to do it? If the latter, that seems a little chincy.

Just enable SFR for WoW. The game works fine in SLI with SFR. If you read the thread all your questions are answered. Please read the investigation.

Neverwinter Nights is working with SLI. Theres a non related driver bug with 1600x1200 resolution where the game wont load. (71.80 drivers) So I had to take it @ 1280x1024 with 8xAA/16xAF

Use AFR profile for Neverwinter Nights.

Great, thanks. Hopefully I can get my machine running today and test it out myself.

You definitely know what you are talking about with Everquest II. I simply defeated the optional shadow features, and set the selectable box to min shadows then ran from the Beggers Court gate to the Inn doors at the Jade dragon(Lion?) in North Freeport. It seemed smoother and reported this at stock system settings 1280x1024, 4xAA/16xAF High Quality selected in game, save the shadows off as noted.

2005-02-10 10:25:36 - EverQuest2
Frames: 6135 - Time: 116752ms - Avg: 52.547 - Min: 33 - Max: 93

I will have to dink around with some of the other settings you suggest and try a more demanding area like Beggers Court itself.

As always thanks for all the work/feedback.
