Hi there,
I'm also having the problem that my gpu fan runs at full speed, all the time. I tried both 1.0.71xx drivers. Both worked fine (module loaded, nvidia splash at x-startup...), except the fact that they don't slow down the gpu fan after starting X. ![]() My sys: Mandrake 10 (kernel 2.6.11), Gainward 6800GT AGP Please help. That noise drives me insane. ![]() |

In the case you are sure that something strange is happening to the fanspeeds, you can adjust them (at your own risk!) using nvclock. I just added code for it to nvclock cvs at sourceforge.net. Using the -i switch temperature/fanspeed information can be obtained, then using nvclock -F XX (in %) the fanspeed can be adjusted.
(Note I added this code a few minutes ago and it might take some hours before it is in CVS as sourceforge is slow.) |

Thunderbird I Love You!!!!!!!!
You Are God! Woooooooohooo No More Damn Noise! Now, what I don't understand, is why does the fanspeed stay at 50% by default under linux if the card is hot or cold? When in Windows it goes variable depending on how hot the card is? I figured this was a driver function that is lacking in linux.

Really nice work!
Note though that "-F " option is absent from builtin help. I assume it is deliberate? |

It will be added soon when the time is ripe as more new stuff will be added and some more sensors will be supported.

Well, fan control runs well enough, but chip and memory frequency adjusting is quite broken... For example, reset (-r) sets chip speed to some mind boggling 1200MHz (should be 700), -m 300 sets memory speed to 300 (as it should), but also sets chip speed to 325 (which was previous memory frequency value). Etc, etc.
I remember playing with some previous version, and it worked much better back then. |

I think your fans must run so fast ! i got a passive cooled board and my idle temp under X is over 70°C !
> nvidia-settings -q GPUCoreTemp > Attribute 'GPUCoreTemp' (trashcan:0.0): 71.

A small update in nvclock cvs there's no fanspeed adjustment support for various (generic) Geforce FX5900/6600(GT)/6800 boards and for boards containing Fintek F75375S and Winbond W83L785R chips. This code was merged yesterday. (5/8/5) I think that you had a 'wrong' snapshot, further note that I haven't tested the fanspeed tweaking code on F75375S cards as I don't have such board here. If your build has fintek code it should show the fanspeed + pwm duty cycle using the -i switch and also using the -F one. I would just upgrade to the latest version and check if it works already else contact me.

Do the nVidia drivers support fan control on the Asus 6800/V9999 GT (which - from what I've read - doesn't use the same fan controller chip than the reference boards)? I mean just the normal fan speed reduction after loading the driver (I don't really care about the fan running at full speed during bootup).
