i need a cheap nv card but that will also be enough to run modern games at 800x600 at good detail (but not necessarily full detail) + AF. dont care about AA, as this will only be used in driving games and wont really be noticed.
would a good GF3 be enough? i think those are going pretty cheap. this is gonna be for an htpc with a projector. im going with nv cuz i really wanna try the edimensional glasses. ive read they work with dlp projectors and i think such low res will be more than enough to not need the latest cards. also could yall tell me the best driver set for the 3d support. |

i dont recommend a gf3 now .

Pretty much what everyone's saying, a Ti4200 or a FX5700(non ultra). I wouldn't go with a GF3, they're getting pretty dated. All depends on your budget.

5700 or Ti 4200, and since you require AF, the 5700 should be your first choice.

GeForce4 Ti are still pretty solid cards with decent performance even on today titles up to 1024x768. Just don't ask them to do some pretty fast AA or AF. This is the only real advantage of the FX line over the old GeForce4.
When my Ti4400 broke, I purchased a 5700Ultra which was barely faster but it allowed me to play with AA and AF enabled all the time with little performance hit. Be careful if you pick up a 5700 non-Ultra as most of them are of the cheapest LE variant, some even with 64 bit buses

FX5700 non-ultra with 128bit memory bus
many of them overclock very well, and for basic gaming like you mention it should be adequate

The 4 Ti is more powerfull, brute force-wise (nearly 50% more when accounting for clockspeed and TMUs/pipe). But AF is faster on 5700.
