Hi, I am doing a TV-out setup for my linux box.
I've installed the nvidia driver for linux correctly and everything works fine, BUT I know that the windows driver has an option called fullscreen zoom, so whenever you play a video only the video will be shown on the tv. I can't find this option in nVidia's own documentation right here . I've searched this forum and several other forums to find a solution, but I still can't figure it out. Regards |

On windows the drivers are more integrated with windows itself. In case of linux where we use X for the graphical part the driver can't do hacky things that are possible on windows. To get zoom-like functionality on linux you need to use twinview in extended desktop mode. Then you need to use a mediaplayer with xinerama support (mplayer / xine) and you need to specify to the app that you want to use xinerama. If you then start a movie on the TV (even if the visible resolution is lower) it will become fullscreen on the tv.

It is the type of twinview using which two devices form one big desktop. (twinvieworientation leftof, rightof .. but not clone!)

ok I tried that, but then Xine's video-window gets a strange wide size, not 16:9 or anything... hmmm

Xine will fill the screen, there are options for xine and even keys to set the ratio. Also note that the tvout resolutions are about allways 4:3. You could stretch the image as a hack to get 16:9.

If you're using TwinView, xine will think your full screen is the shape of your virtual screen. One workaround is to define a virtual screen that's also 16:9. mplayer allows you to define your screen's aspect ratio on the command line but I don't know if xine has this feature.
