Hi,
I now played UT2004 Onslaught to test my 1 week old MSI NX6600GT-VTD128 AGP 8x and I get about 60FPS in 800x600@32. Sometimes, when there is more action FPS get down to ~35! Seems to be too low...? The latest NVidia driver is installed. I turned anti-aliasing as well as anisotropic filtering off. System performance (don't know the exact english term, I have a german installation - it's here the 3rd item in the NVidia configuration tool) is set to "Performance". UT2004 settings: Texture Detail: Normal Character Detail: Lower World Detail: Normal Physics Detail: Low Dynamic Mesh LOD: Normal Decal Stay: Normal Character Shadow: None x Decals x Dynamic Lighting x Coronas x Projectors x Wheater Effects Fog Distance: 0 System: Dell Dimension 8300 Intel Pentium 4 HT 2,6GHz 1024 MB RAM Intel 875P chipset WinXP Home SP2 Thanks for your help! |

ut2004 takes serious cpu and gpu horsepower to achieve high framerates. You only have average there sadly, cpu being the bigger bottleneck of the two. Try running this timedemo and post back with results @ the different resolutions -- set all game details to holy schmidt settings so we get an idea where you stand http://www.3dcenter.org/downloads/ut2004-primeval.php
FWIW also set world detail to Low -- it has a fairly big hit on performance, as do decals and given your cpu is no stallion you'd be well the more wiser to do so if you need the fps. Turn off weather effects too -- both useless when it comes to gameplay if you ask me -- as is foliage which you seem to have unchecked like a good lad ![]() I can play with all the fancy crap turned on but the game plays better with some of it turned off I reckon -- specifically: Wold detail -- Low Weather effects -- off Decals -- Low Foliage -- off Doesn't sound like you've tweaked any of the game settings either since it dips to 35 -- if it's dipping to 35 then you have a default .ini file that could do with a little work for a few more frames too. Have a read here, there's no shortage of tweaks you can do to improve that: http://www.tweakguides.com/UT2004_1.html |

GTX 285 SSC Goodness!

That seems way to low for that card... expecially at 800x600 without everything on full.

a friend of mine had terribly low framerates with his 6600gt agp; 800x600 in HL2, no aa/af and medium settings ran horribly. i went into his bios and saw the card selected as PCI or something, changed it to AGP, and all is well.
not sure if htis is your problem, but it cant hurt to check. of course, this is only if its working slowly in EVERYTHING. |

When I turn all effects on and set everything to max I get an average of 30FPS. Not very good results.... should I deinstall the NVidia driver, run DriverCleaner and install the NVidia driver again? EDIT: the card is running in AGP 8x, this setting is ok ![]() |

I dont think his CPU would be limiting him "That" much however. While my CPU is quite a bit faster I can get alot more than that on my Athlon XP 2500+ with a 6800GT. At such a low resolution GPU wouldnt be much of a bottleneck.

The bigest performance killer in UT2004 is Fog/Draw Distance. Go to the options menu and turn that slider all the way down. You shouldn't even notice a difference with this slider all the up so I don't know why its even there.

Did Microsoft ever fix that DirectX 60hz refresh rate bug?

Oh, one more thing:
Prince of Persia Sands of Time tells me at startup that a hardware problem with my graphics card had been found and that the game will not run correctly... However, up to now I didn't noticed any problems... Maybe it's the same problem causing the low FPS in UT2004 ![]() EDIT: I now ran DriverCleaner Pro, followed the instructions in the Readme but I still have these low FPS ![]() Last edited by SFL; 02-10-05 at 04:42 AM. |
