Default Unresolved symbols in nvidia_drv.o

the nvidia kernel module seems to be ok, I wish I could think the same about the X11 driver.

The log below will be self-explainatory, but

1) IT WAS working with 2.6.10 + X11 CVS ver., so I don't think it's either a kernel or X11 problem
2) it stopped working when I cp'd the whole hd content to another, to move to reiser4
3) the distribution is slackware
4) i had neither hardware nor software changes, releated to X or whatever...

the unresolved symbols aren't the real problem here. the real problem is that the OpenGL libraries don't match the nvidia module. it looks like you may be loading Mesa OpenGL libraries with the nvidia driver.

normally the nvidia installer will take care of these issues. did you update your system since installing the nvidia drivers, or did you not use the nvidia installer to install the nvidia drivers?

the easiest solution is probably to reinstall the nvidia drivers via the installer.

anyway glx is not the problem, as the composite extension doesn't allow it to run.

there must be another issue (the unresolved symbols, for example).

Default Re: Unresolved symbols in nvidia_drv.o

the unresolved symbols come from other X modules. for example, the symbol fbCloseScreen comes from libfb.a, which is being loaded according to your log (try this: "nm /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libfb.a | grep fbCloseScreen")

the unresolved symbols are a side effect of the X driver bailing out. whether there's a conflict between composite and glx or not, the glx libraries being loaded are definitely the wrong versions. if you do an ls you should see the following:

Quote:
% ls -l /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 Dec 8 18:58 libglx.so -> libglx.so.1.0.6629*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 645924 Dec 8 18:58 libglx.so.1.0.6629*
I'm pretty sure reinstalling the drivers should resolve this issue for you.

doesn't work... i've tried 1000times. btw, as i said, the different versions are not a problem... but if the unresolved symbols are NOT the problem, then where's the crash? (in the log file, i mean)

Just a question. Are you using Gentoo? I had the same problem some days ago. Searching on Google I found the solution:
USE="-dllopen" emerge xorg-x11

there may be other distribution-related library issues as ViRgilLio suggests, but I guarantee you the libglx and libGLcore libraries are wrong. can you attach an nvidia-bug-report.log?

Few days ago I posted a similar problem with my gentoo linux box:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=45677
I think Icompiled my X.or with dllopen flag... I'm probing yours solution ViRgiLio!
I've recompiled my kernel more than 1000 times, and re-install he driver 2000 times, testing all with 3000 possibilities! (with/out agpgart support, with a lot of patches NVIDIA driver, emerging the driver from gentoo sites) But the same result is given to me:
"unresolved problem" X-P

ah, we've heard reports of the old X modules not loading with Xorg compiled with dllopen support (or perhaps more accurately, mixing modules of the two types doesn't work).

I've seen a report that relinking the nvidia module works, but I can't guarantee this will work:

ld -shared nvidia_drv.so nvidia_drv.o

it doesn't, BUT it does not load either, giving ONE unresolved symbol (fbWinPrivateIndex), which is in libfb.a... is there a way to link that from here (despite nvidia_drv.so being statically linked) ?

ok. there must be something in x11-6.8.2 that solved the problem. anyway, thank you all for the attention.
