Oh yeah ? hows that so ? .. & remember we are talking here about SC not 3DMark. actaully from a screenshots compasrion i made .. the shadows with hardware shadow maps looks better to me & gave more performance .

here you go :

the shadows of door's vertical bars looks better with HSM & so the shadows of the right door . though angler shadows dissapeard .

as for the SM2.0 leakege news .. yep we like to see a link for it . thats an important news indeed !

I kinda doubt it now since Reverend from beyond3d pretty much confirmed there won't be a SM2 path.

^ yeah, but it seems that some German team is busy coding some sort of sm2.0 patch for CT. Maybe a German subsidiary of Ubi ?

Anyway, I think sm2.0 inclusion is a positive thing ; even more potential for enlarged SC CT installed base. The more, the merrier

I'll try and find the one about the Hardware shadows.

The guy claimed to be a programmer who has coded quite a many times

shadow code.

That's nice and all, but looking at those 2 pics above by SH, it doesn't look that much different at all in this game. I'd much rather have the increase in performance than negligeble difference in IQ.

The post i provided is dated at 26 feb 05 while the one you provide dates 25 jan 05.

By no means i don't dout you! I'm just asking for more clarification. Could it be that this piece of info is newer?

As far as the shadowing if concearned i totally agree with you! If the quality loss is small then by all means, better performance is preffered.

Read the post you linked to. The guy is talking about a much older interview with the lead programmer. I also remember that interview and it was last year when it was done. The lead programmer, other programmers, and industry insiders already pretty much confirmed the game will be only SM1.1/SM3. The guy that made the post even said it was based on an older PC magazine interview. He also states things might of changed since then and that the SM2 path is still just a rumor.

If you want more information, go to beyond3d and rage3d forums and read the threads pertaining to the game. Seriously, if the game is slated to be released in March(it's already FEb28), and the final demo still doesn't have a SM2 path, how much chance of there being a SM2 path could there be?

WELL I liked being able to rip a makeshift door into the back of a tent and then go grab to the guy.

I guess you're right then.

It's official. NO SM2 path

I really hope that nVidia cards can handle all features ok and you guys enjoy them as much as possible.

Good for nVidia for rewarding 6800 owners like that!!!

By the way, it was about time SM3 starts rolling! I want more games with parallx mapping and HDR. My next VGA will be able to handle all of them too!

heh performance with HDR & parallax mapping sucked so bad for me .. thats why i'm going to play it on SM1.1 anyway . maybe some guys with better systems can handle better than mine , but i really doubt it will be playable @ high res & with AA enabled .
so you are not missing much actually .

I play the game at 1024x768 with SM3, HDR, VDM, HQ Soft shadows, and 16xaf. It's perfectly playable. I find that HDR takes about a 5 fps hit. HQ SS takes another 5 fps. And VDM takes a 3 fps hit. That's a total of about 13 fps difference. But on my system it barely dips into the 25 fps so it's fine. I'd gladly trade uber high resolutions for the extra IQ options.

Now that I've been playing the demo with them on, it's hard to play without them even at higher resolutions w/aa.

I cant stand playing @1024x768 anymore ... i used to play @1600x1200+AA/8xAF & my minimum would be 1280x1024,2xAA,8xAF .. so that wont work for me in the meantime
