After several unsuccessful attempts to install the NVIDIA driver
using the basic install command "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-6629-pkg2.run" the following command finally worked: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-6629-pkg2.run --kernel-name=`uname -r` --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-2.4 Using the standard line, the loadable kernel module was not found on the NVIDIA site, nor on my system. The error message about "rivafb driver conflicts with the NVIDIA driver" appeared when building the loadable module. FAQ says: A: Using both rivafb and the NVIDIA kernel module at the same time is currently broken. In general, using two independent software drivers to drive the same piece of hardware is a bad idea. lsmod doesn't list rivafb. How do I remove rivafb? Redhat WS 2.4.21-27.0.2.ELsmp NVIDIA FS1100 Thanks for suggestions. Anne |

well, the "generic linux forum" isn't the right place where you can expect to get a good answer to your problem... so please ask your question again here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14
Well, if lsmod doesn't show rivafb, then it's either built-in (in kernel) or not loaded... could you attach your /var/log/nvidia-installer.log ? |

OK, to be on the safe side... could you please run "nvidia-bug-report.sh" (as root) and attach the created "log" here... (together with your kernel config, but only if you didn't used RedHat's one)...

OK. The nvidia-bug-report.log should be attached here, I hope.
I just used Redhat's config: [root@deino bin]# uname -ar Linux deino.colorado.edu 2.4.21-27.0.2.ELsmp #1 SMP Wed Jan 12 23:25:44 EST 2005 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Didn't see anything in the .log about rivafb. If that's just a generic low-level graphics frame buffer that allows you to install your system in graphical mode, then that's great. Hopefully it doesn't conflict with the nvidia drivers. Thanks for looking at this. Anne |
