So..... what is it with 7167 being MUCH slower than 6629 on PCIe Cards? No offense, but it's crap, I get double the framerate with 6629 for WoW.

Doesn't work with "swsusp2". Same as all the others, hung up on black screen on resume. Ah well, back to the crap XFree nv driver.

OK, I'd like to apologize to the NVidia team- I was able to get this to work, by enabling the option "UseDummyXServer" in hibernate.conf . Using 2.6.9, with ACPI on, NvAGP=0 in /etc/X11/XF86Config, APM off, and AGP turned off in the kernel config, I've been able to resume perfectly with "swsusp2" reliably with 7167 (and 6629).

I am still experiencing hard locks with this version (as with 6629, too). The latest version that worked for me was 6111, but unfortunately this is not working with recent kernels. I had tryied every patch in the world, but when I run startx, the machine hard locks.

I am running at this moment Debian Sid, kernel 2.6.10 (included into Debian Sid), and the nvidia from Debian repository (7167). When I run startx, the machine locks (I can not even ssh to it), and nothing suspect appears in the logs. Nothing.

The hardware is a Dell Inspiron 2650, Geforce 2Go VGA card. It must something specific to Geforce 2Go, or to LCD screens, because on the same software configuration from my workstation, this combination kernel+nvidia driver works flawlessly (the debian from the workstation machine was copied with rsync from the laptop, so it is EXACTLY the same software). But, of course, on my desktop I have a Nvidia Geforce 2MX (64MB).

Any ideas why is not working? There are any known issues on this? I am forced at this moment to run with the "nv" driver, which kinda sucks.

Thanx in advance.

Mugur: You are not the only one. If you go to this thread, you will see there are people not only with I2650, but with Toshiba Satellite and HP having problems with the 6629 and with 7167 drivers. For the moment, I don't know any solution, but I suspect something in the monitor detection routine. Anyway, did you say the 6111 drivers worked for you? What BIOS version do you have on your Dell I2650?

Again dittos. I reverted the machine to 6629 and the X.Org freezes disappeared. As I've noted before, the problem seems to be strictly confined to the userspace portion of the driver. After the Last Straw Freeze, I was able to ssh in and kill X, drop to a console, remove the 7167 modules, install the 6629 drivers and then restart KDM. This was all accomplished without a reboot. I'll further note that the freeze always seemed to happen prior to certain bitmaps being drawn on the screen. I was able to consistently freeze it this morning by visiting an Apple Service Source site in Konqueror. That site has OS X Aqua themed buttons on it's pages and X.Org would always freeze just prior to those being rendered. This behavior is consistent with my ksplash and FirstClass troubles. Certain 2D drawing actions would just consistently freeze it.

I have a similarly configured machine at home that seems to love the 7167 drivers. Go figure. The big differences between the two machines are:

Home (likes 7167): HT P-IV running an SMP kernel 2.6.10 and Debian Unstable's latest XFree86. Asus P4S800 mobo. card: FX5700-LT

Work (barfs on 7167): non-HT P-IV running non-SMP 2.6.10 and Ubuntu Hoary's lastest X.org. Intel 845 mobo. Freeze happens with either intel_agp or Nvidia's internal AGP support. card: GeForce4 440MX

For once, I'm happy about Debian taking forever to incorporate the latest and greatest. Since the problem seems to be an unfortunate userspace hoseup, I suspect there is some difference between XFree86 4.3+Debian patches and X.Org 6.8.2 that interacts very badly with this driver.

On my laptop I can't get it to use the whole widescreen, its around 10cm of black at the right side of the screen also there is a little 2cm border at the bottom with scrampled data.

Anyone that has a qlue on what to do?

The laptop is a HP Compaq nx9105.
Kernel: 2.6.11
Distro: Ubuntu (Hoary)
Me too, I also have an NX9105 (= Compaq R3000Z ) and this driver does not fix this problem. Again this has already been reported so why no fix? Can NVIDIA not test their drivers on this hardware before release?

I know they can't possibly test it on EVERY hardware platform but at least on those that have reported problems?

Distro: Gentoo
Kernel: 2.6.10-gentoo-r7

Is the "Temperature Bug" present in linux 71.67 as in Windows 7x.xx drivers? I'm observing 7-10 degrees higher idle temperature than the previous version.

It's strange that UT2004 is much slower, i'm losing 15-20fps with the new drivers but Quake3, Tribes2 are fine. Also glxgears is down by a large amount so I really dont see any benefit of theses. I'm disappointed that nvidia have not made there Xcomposite and Render Accel support much better, but I guess thats not a priority.

Disapointing release considering the time between the last driver release, shouldn't nvidia be on top of theses issues now?

I already wrote a bugreport to nvidia.
Does your machine freeze completely, or are you able to move your mouse?
Can you look if you also get those "Xid 13" Errors in dmesg, if your box crashes?
Yes, I only able to move mouse. Keyboard do not respond even on NumLock. I have no Xid Errors in dmesg. :\
