If you are going to release a driver soon, would you mind trying to solve some compatibility issues with the laptop chips (or BIOSes) too? Especially the old ones. As far as I remember, for some laptops, the video card and the motherboard share the same flash memory and a video BIOS update can't be done independently.

razi, do you issue 'make oldconfig' when you upgrade your kernel? If not this may be where your problems are?

In my case, it doesn't.

the TV-out still isn't detected with the 7167 drivers with my GF4 Ti4200.
In order to get it back, I downgraded my driver to the 4496 patched by minion.de for the 2.6 compatibility.
Too bad I cannot have the nvidia-settings with this driver.

A fix would be appreciable, since I neither have time nor money to buy a new Graphic Card...

Yes, that's it. I goofed up on my .config. What I did was just copy my old .config and then issue "make". I did "make oldconfig" as you said, and Nvidia installation went smoothly afterwards.

To Ghostwalker and Zander, thanks a whole lot !

fedora core 3, nvida driver 7167, amd64, asus k8v-x
problem: a few minutes after boot, system freeze (only mouse move)
Solution (workaround): Disable cpuspeed
Conclusion: nvidia drver 7167 have a bug (not work with cpuspeed daemon)

hope that zander or any NVIDIA-Linux-guru, or a Slackware-guru sees this post, so...

1.0-7167 gives me a hard-lock-black-screen with Slackware 10.1 and:

kernel-generic-2.4.29 w/ Xorg 6.8.1, GCC 3.3.4/5
kernel-generic-2.4.29 w/ Xorg 6.8.2, GCC 3.3.4/5
kernel-2.6.11 w/ Xorg 6.8.1, GCC 3.3.4/5
kernel-2.6.11 w/ Xorg 6.8.2, GCC 3.3.4/5
kernel-2.6.11 w/ Xorg 6.8.2, GCC 3.4.3
kernel-2.6.11-nitro2(includes -mm4 and 2.6.11.5) w/ Xorg 6.8.2, GCC 3.3.5

any w/ KDE 3.3.3 or KDE 3.4

Slackware 10.0 worked with 6629/6111, w/ kernel 2.6.7/8/9/10

maybe its a slackware thing?

@Licaon: the problem is specific to your hardware; we hope to address it with an updated driver in the near future.

I'd like to ask nVidia to fix the rest of Xid. This is the behavior:

after some time (always different ;-)) the system lock ups for cca 15 - 20 seconds (NVRM: Xid is written to the log). When/if the system unlocks, it looks like this:

1) image is frozen (doesn't update) - often damaged but the game works (you can easily quit the if you know the ingame menu well)
2) image is not frozen but the game works a little bit strange - some objects are invisible (wallhacking :-D), some are black etc.
3) system doesn't unlock.... (doesn't occur much often)

The good thing is that after exiting the game you can start it again an it'll be OK (till next Xid).

hmm how can that be, if 6629/6111/and the older worked?
anyway, 10x for the quick answer.

and i forgot to mention that i have a Geforce2 Integrated GPU in ASUS A7N266-VM

[update]
1. it seems that even 6629 doesnt work anymore, tested on 2.6.11.6-grsec (medium security)
w/ or w/o the latest patches for the driver... see the attached logs

2. somehow after running *just* the 7167.RUN installer w/o the patches Xorg actually could write a Xorg.log (but, i could not reproduce this after a driver uninstall)

@Licaon: 1.0-6111 was the last driver to work with GeForce2 Integrated GPUs, both 1.0-6629 and 1.0-7167 are known to hang during initialization.
