@PrakashKC: the attached patch should fix the problem; the problem occurs if the driver is built against Linux 2.6 kernels with support for multiple backends (Linux 2.6.11-bk3+), but configured w/o AGPGART support. The patch application instructions are analogous to http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47405. An alternative to using this patch is to (re-)configure the kernel to include AGPGART support (either as a loadable module or statically linked into the kernel). Please let me know if there are any other problems.

@AlxMAX: `startx -- -logverbose 5` will print the required EDID information. Look at the detailed timings.

@zander

Thanks for the quick fix. Yes it works very well .Unfortunately there is still the unaccelerated font problem I reported with 6629:

Try for yourself:

Open konsole (in kde) and eg type dmesg
Now quickly scroll the sidebar up and down. With 6111 it needs about 20-25% CPU and with current 60-65%.

To make it more obvious, maximize konsole and move the sidebar. 6629 and current update the content slowly whereas with 6111 it is instant.

I have a Geforce4 Ti4200 and enabled RGB subpixel hinted AA with xorg-x11 6.8.2.

Should I make a bug report and send the log created by the nvidia script?

@zander

Done. I hope this really gets fixed, as this was the reason I didn't use 6629 driver. I'll testdrive the new driver for a few days, though.
BTW, nice that current driver's kernel module needs about 1MB less mem than 6111's.

Hello to all,

Ok im kind of new to Linux as I have not used it in a while. I have MDK 10.0 installed and it works great. Im trying to get 10.2 beta 3 to work. I have followed Zanders rules as to patch the nvidia driver the 6629 for the x86, the problem that i have is when i run patch -p0 /path/to NVIDIA_kernel etc.... the shell just sits there doing nothing, I thought it was thinking so i left it for about an hour and still just sits their with a blinking cursur what am i doing wrong and i know i installed patch as its on cd2 and i used install software. any help would be really great. thanks.

Wonderful, GPU power management is yet again broken entirely, like in 6111. Now how do you like your GPU at a solid 80C while it isnt doing anything, what a great job. This was bug reported and they didnt even fix it, just made it broken. At least it half worked in 6629, unless you restarted X.
