Default TVOut black&white after upgrade to 7167

I had drivers 6629 for my Geforce4 MX 440, 2.6.10-kernel. As the new drivers came out, I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.11 and the drivers to 7167 (I uninstalled the drivers first, then installed the new drivers). I did not change my xorg.conf-file. Now when I use my tvout it's suddenly in black and white while it used to be in color. Anyone knows why?

Here's a section from xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVidia"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "RenderAccel" "On"
Option "TwinView"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "Clone"
Option "MetaModes" "1024x768, ; 1024x768, 1024x768"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "60"
Option "TVStandard" "PAL-B"
Option "TVOutFormat" "COMPOSITE"
EndSection

Just tried with the 6629-drivers patched for 2.6.11-kernel and the tv is in color again. Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi!

I've installed 7167 drivers and I have this problem too. I haven't checked TV-OUT but my TV Card doesn't work in color. It worked OK with previous version. Where can I find 6629 drivers patched for 2.6.11 kernel?

Best regards

I've installed patched previous drivers and it solved my problem with lack of color and TV card. I wonder if anyone else has problems with new drivers and color with TV-out/TV card? Is this a bug or ... maybe we haven't luck whith these drivers.

Thanks and regards

Is there anyone who can use his tv in color with the newest drivers? Please tell so I know it's me ... if it does work, did you change anything in xorg.conf? Tia.

Nobody? Could maybe anyone from the nvidia-team (Zander, Thunderbird?) at least tell me it's my fault and it should be working? Browsing this forum I get the impression that no answer means no resolution, but I can't imagine this doesn't work anymore with the new drivers?

All help appreciated, but I guess LeHardi and me are stuck here and have to live with using outdated drivers.

edit:
Just tried patching the 7167-drivers with the newest patches from Zander, to no effect. Tried turning off framebuffer, tried PAL-B and PAL-G, COMPOSITE and SVIDEO, and all their combinations but unfortunately no solution. I've attached the nvidia bug report.

You are not along guys!
The same problem: GeFroce4 MX 4000 + 7167 driver + 2.6.11 kernel = black&white TvOut.
It was working before on 6111 driver + 2.6.9 kernel. But it was strange: when I've changed videomode by Alt+Ctrl+GreyPlus tv becomes b&w at first! Than if change it again it becomes color! And it was stable.
Have you asked Zander directly?
Some replies after bug-report?

Tnx! Yes, I have the same thing with the 6629 (and before, iirc): tv-out first being black and white, then switch to tv for a second time and it's in color.

Anyway, I have sent an email to nvidia and got a reply (within 2 hours!) that they would investigate.

SenorSnor,
it's pity, but I've decide to go back to 2.6.9 kernel + 6111 driver. It worked fine but after upgrading I've got just new problems...
I will wait what nVidia will do then will try again.
I believe they can do it well!
Good luck!

I was under the impression that NVIDIA doesn't actually support tv-out other than those versions that replicate the reference board design. I may be wrong here, but the manufacturer of the card (Asus, Creative etc.) sometimes changes the tv chip used on the board. This would lead to two owners of e.g. a Geforce3 card of different brands to have diverging experiences.

I'm happy if it works for you guys and please let us all know here if it does. I have so far only used the tv-out on my Geforce4 420 Go with the windows reference drivers and would like to try it out in linux sometime.

Same here. 7167 breaks my TVOUT.
