Just out of curiosity, what version of GCC are people using? I compiled 2.6.11-mm[3 & 4] with a gcc 4.0 snapshot and noticed the problem occur fairly quickly. I'm now waiting to see whether or not it's going to happen on -mm4 compiled with gcc 3.4.3...

It's not a FireFox thing - I'm seeing the same thing with the 'exmh' mail reader, which is a Tk/Tcl based application.
2.6.11-mm4 kernel, compiled with the FC3 version of gcc 4.0. Oddly enough, it triggers pretty quickly on my Dell Latitude C840 laptop when I'm at work and using the monitor hanging off the docking station (1600x1200 on a 21" monitor is nice . I launch 'exmh', and within 5 seconds I get the Xid: 13 and we're basically dead in the water, alt-sysrq-s and alt-sysrq-b time. The one time I tried it at home on the LCD screen it worked fine. So maybe that's a useful datapoint. |

Following up to myself - Option "RenderAccel" "false" in the xorg.conf file seems to
prevent the Xid 13 and crash - or at least 'exmh' actually got all the way started and I'm still here.. ![]() |

RenderAccel being on or off doesn't seem to matter here; I still get the frozen screen with active pointer eventually. I even tried a stock 2.6.11 kernel. Grr...

Hi, I have Debian Sid installed, with kernel 2.6.10-1-k7 official from Sid repositories, Athlon Thunderbird 1.4 Ghz, Geforce 4 MX 440 128 MB AGP 8x, Asus A7V8X-X.
I had this Xid 13 error (100 % CPU usage from X); ssh from another computer worked and I saw this log messages. Mi machine worked fine for almost an hour, and then it got freezed. It was very annoying, and it happened with any application, anytime. I don't know where, but in another thread there was a guy who said that disabling "RenderAccel" option in XFConfig-4 eliminates the problem. So, I disabled RenderAccel option. Well, now my KDE is 6 o 7 hours working and it didn't freezed, it looks very stable. Maybe this is a solution to this ugly bug. Regards, Marcelo |

Please run `nvidia-bug-report.sh` on your system and attach the generated log file if you're seeing this problem. Please also note if you're using a) a combination of COMPOSITE and RenderAccel, b) RandRRotation (in which case the problem likely reproduces after RandR modesets) or c) neither COMPOSITE/RenderAccel nor RandRRotation. Thanks for your help.

I have the same problem. I can't even log into X before it freezes as soon as I open a window or move a window. This is with a brand new PNY GeForce 5500 PCI and Fedora 3 with latest updates and latest NVidia drivers.
NVRM: Xid: 13, 0000 02005f00 0000009f 00000308 0004a3fc 00000008 Mouse pointer can still move but the display is unresponsive. I can remotely log in and kill X, which is taking 100% CPU. |
