Default The best Prescott CPU Air Cooler?

I currently have the Zalman 7700 ALCU Cooling fan on my 3.4 CPU. I get average temperatures of 37C and up to 53C when running high end games. I don't overclock the cpu. Is there a better cooling option (air based) that anyone can recommend?

I currently have a steel antec case with 2 120mm fans (front input, rear output) plus an 80mm fan I mounted in conjunction with the intel certified side cone that came with the case. The fan is set to blow air straight down the pipe onto the cpu fan.

I also have an antec super lanboy aluminum case but found that because it was smaller, there didn't seem to be any benefit to the aluminum construction over the steel of a larger box (and its additional airflow benefits from being internally larger.

The Zalman series are meant to be pretty good, I doubt you'd find any air coolers that would cooler any better... Although Gigabytes coolers are meant to be very good too, perhaps a bit noisy though

Ask the Thermalright Junkie: He'll tell ya
#1: TR XP-120 with 120mm panaflo Low
#2: TR XP 90 with 92mm panaflo Hi / med

also worth mentioning is Coolermaster Hyper48 and Hyper 6, also they're making a Hyper6+ using the same concept, but bigger with aluminum fins (so lighter as well).

Although if you want the absolute best, strap a 92MM Vantec Tornado to that. It will be loud...

Zalmans are quiet, but generally not the best peformers when it comes to temps.

I like XP-120 myself. Slap a faster fan on it
and u have the best air cooling.

If I was using air it's what I would be using.

Yeah, Prescotts don't get much cooler than that on air. For the amount of money you would spend on an XP-120+fan, the differential wouldn't be worth it. Best to put those funds away for a different upgrade.

yup - I run @ 38 idle and upto 58 under 100 constant load for several hours using a Zalman 7700alcu.

you wont beat what you've already got.

if your really bothered about it download ThrottleWatch 2005 and run it - set it to save a log (F5) and then set a CPU benchmark to loop (i use 3D Mark 05's CPU Test).

Run it for 30 or 40 Loops then assuming it does'nt fail the test or crash stop the throttlewatch log and open it up to see if your CPU throttled back during the test.

My temp is quite high at 3,6 from 3,2, idle: 52-55C, full load: 65-70C, thats with stock cooler, but I'm soon buying an XP-90 and hopefully my temps will drop a little maybe as much as 10C.
