Default X hangs while mouse moves bug: advice

Hi all,

I've had this bug (X freezes and eats almost 100% of CPU while mouse pointer can be moved freely) with 6xxx driver versions until recently. This bug happened to me when I tried to play movie with KPlayer (mplayer frontend). After I installed latest (7167) nVIDIA drivers this problem's gone. What I did exactly:
1. run ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run --uninstall
2. checked for files installed by nVIDIA installer (see APPENDIX C in README) and remove them all if any
3. removed /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia.ko
4. run depmod -a followed by ldconfig.

After that I just issued clean install with NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7167-pkg1.run. My X.Org configuration file remains the same from previos driver version, all I had to do is re-run depmod -a and ldconfig afterwards. And that's it - everything now (including STR/STD) works like charm. I suspect unstable behaviour and bugs took place because before I did not uninstall previous versions and just installed new one overwriting files.

All I want to say is please do get rid of old files completely before installing new driver and reporting bugs - this can save your time and actually make things work as expected. Double check for remaining files in /usr/lib/*GL*.XXXX; /usr/lib/tls/*.XXXX; /usr/X11R6/lib/, where XXXX is driver version.
