Default 6800 Ultra and a good Monitor

Had a quicky or opion to ask. with a good card like this what would better for gaming a Sony E540 series 21" TFT monitor new in box check google for pic and price i think i sells for 600 bucks and a samsung syncmaster 19 LCD with 25 ms timing?

The sony looks damn nice so does the samsung but i get alittle smears in games with the samsung and haven't did gaming yet with the Sony.

The sony is actually the same age as the samsung so good their

Just curious what would look better and feel better

the 25ms on the samsung is probably its undoing..

25ms isn't exactly the best response time for gaming..

yea the 25ms isnt too good

they make 8ms LCD's now, and my 12ms wasnt too bad (about $400-450)

however, CRT's give you that nice black that most LCD's cant supply (yet). if you want to buy a new LCD any time soon, id wait. it shouldnt be too long til their technology beats CRT's

If you're lookin for a new LCD check out the Dell 2001FP. I recently picked another one up for $500 directly from Dell and it is of the best, if not, the best 20 incher out there. Perfect combo with the 6800U

I'd reccomend staying away from LCD's if you're a serious gamer, you'll get the best overall graphics quality at any resolition you wish to play at. Some of my monitor reccomendations would include the Viewsonic Professional Series monitors, 19 - 22" size, I have the P225F myself, Very sweet setup. Also NEC's are nice as well as Samsung. Only reason you should bother with LCD is if you have very light sensitive eyes, or desperately need to have a small footprint on your desktop if space if an issue, otherwise do yourself and your wallet a favor and stick with the CRT, you'll be glad you did. Also keep the refresh rates high on the CRT, 85hz or above will do nicely and keep your eyes more relaxed..

Heck, even the worst makes ship LCDs with 16ms response times. What's keeping me from getting one for gaming though is that they only work best at their native resolution. Switch to something else and you get weird proportions etc.

I am partial to my Viewsonic P225f CRT for color and overall performance. However, I have a 17" NEC that does a good job with no ghosting (16ms rated).
If you want an LCD monitor I would wait for the new 4-5ms rated ViewSonics.
(see this post if you already have not: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=47761)

I have two LCDs, a Hitachi and a NEC. I also have two CRTs, both ViewSonic and both use the Trinitron tube. For general use I like the LCDs but for gaming I am still partial to my 19" and 22" CRTs.
So, of course, I would favor the Sony you are considering. I expect the next generation of LCDs to be equal to, or surpass, the CRT in both value a picture clarity.
