Default FC4 T1 hangs on "initializing GLX"

Well I've been working on this for a few days to no avail. My xorg.conf
works with the new NVIDIA 7167 drivers as long as the "load "glx""
command is commented out. Otherwise it hangs on the initializing glx
part of startx.

I'm pretty much at a loss at this point. I have a dual monitor setup
and am using Twinview. Obviously glxinfo segfaults without glx
initialized.

Here is my nvidia-bug-report.log data
http://brainbug.dnsalias.com/nvidia-bug-report.log

Any clues will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

your dmesg output is useless because of to many usb errors... can you attach your /var/log/messages?

Ok I upgraded kernels today to the 2.6.11-1.1191_FC4 kernel and re-ran the nvidia bug report script. Here is that output (much cleaner this time) along with /var/log/messages from the time of a boot till the time that X fails to start.

I had the same problem in Ubuntu Hoary (Debian) with a 2.6.11 kernel - GLX would crash gnome everytime for me.

Try something out- install openbox(its very small maybe 30kb) (you can install via yum from a terminal) and try to log in to openbox instead of gnome or kde and see if you can. I was able to log into Openbox and even run glxgears but everytime I'd attempt to login to gnome the system would crash. I thought that was strange and the only thing on any log after the crash was Loading GLX

Did you try yum for 7167? that is how I installed it for FC3.
If you can't go that route
go here http://unixforge.org/~matthias-chris...y050303-082233
and try the 6111 for the kernel version of your choice

I'll have to try something other than gnome to test that theory.

FYI this is a straight install from FC4 T1 iso's, then yum -y update to bring to the latest version.

Then a sh NVIDIA.blah.blah.run and kernel install from runlevel 3.

I'm baffled

did you search yum for the 7167 kernel-module and nvidia-glx? I didnt have to use the nvidia driver at all since there were packages available

What is the name used for those packages and which repo?
I'll give them a shot.

Ive been looking and since you are using FC4 which is still 3.9 really and not released yet none of the repos seem to have it but go here

http://packages.ccux-linux.de/
http://packages.ccux-linux.de/index.php?pdetail=142 kernel-module-nvidia-2.6.11
http://packages.ccux-linux.de/index.php?pdetail=242 nvidia-glx (this is the libraries)

they have a 2.6.11-1 kernel-module and a nvidia-glx that you can try out- nobody else seems to have a 2.6.11 rpm yet - you shouldn't have to configure anything at first it will auto-update xorg.conf etc

That kernel module is for the 1.0.6629 Nvidia drivers not 1.0-7167. I'll give them a try when I get back home, but it seems since 1.0-7167 is supposed to have support for 2.6.11 kernel's this is still a bug Unless I've got some annoying xorg.conf error.

I've had baaaad experiences mixing yum repo's on a test release like this so far. I've ended up in a dependancy deadlock several times and had to start back over from the iso install. Thats the only reason I'm hesitant.
