Resolution

Hello all...

I am on RH73, Dell Latitude laptop, 512 meg RAM, PIII 1.2GHZ....

Has the NVIDIA Geforce2GO (16 meg) card in it...

I downloaded the drivers, and all went well with it... however, I can't get any resolution above 1024x768

Under WinXP, I can get the full 1600x1200 (which is what i want)...

when running vmware under xp, Linux gets 1600x1200.... i blew out windows... and would like my 1600x1200 back.

i have modded xf86config-4 - and placed all different depths and resolutions, with no luck.

I even made the resolution 24 with ONLY 16x12, no luck... then took it down to 16... same thing... stuck at 1024x768

i can go BELOW 1024x768, but nothing above.

any ideas?

Depends on what X is setup for. The config file determines the maximum resolution - have your tried adjusting that in anyway?

Could you post a copy of your XF86Config (should be found in /etc/X11).

use the 'Xconfigurator' (by typing 'Xconfigurator' on your command line)

if he's using redhat 7.3, the XF86Config-4 should be the right one (if hes using xfree 4.xxx)

Never use Xconfigurator, just edit the XF86Config(-4) file by hand. Xconfigurator isn't a real XF86Config(-4) file editor. Each time you use it, it overwrites the original XF86Config file with a new one. So when you use it, it will clear all modifications you did. (nvidia driver ...)

It looks ok, but it might be that your monitor in fact doesn't support real 1600x1200 and that it is scaled back on windows. (X validates the resolution) Try if you can use the special laptop mode: 1400x1050.

Thunderbird has it right. Make sure you have the proper horizontal and vertical refresh rates for your monitor set.

First.... would like to say thanks to NVIDIA for making drivers for linux....

Both Dell and Redhat were of no help in solving this issue...

I actually went to a site telling how to use a Dell Latitude C810 with DEBIAN.... and looked at his file... modded mine accordingly, and now I am looking at 1600x1200 at 32 bit!
