Default Sony Vaio FS115M and Mandrake 10.1 Howto

Hi,

I finally got the 7167 drivers working with mandrake 10.1 on my vaio fs115m with 6200 Go Turbocache (some of the infos are from http://vip-net.org/gentoo_sony_vaio_s3xp.txt) :

I did the following:

- go to runlevel 3 (init 3)

- add mandrake cooker to the media list with urpmi.addmedia:

urpmi.addmedia -h ftp.proxad.fr_devel_cooker
ftp://ftp.proxad.fr/pub/Distribution...586/media/main

...then get the current kernel:

- urpmi kernel-2.6.11

...and the kernel sources

- urpmi kernel-source-2.6-2.6.11-6

Now we need Xorg at least version 6.8.2, so

- urpmi xorg-x11

Now extract the 7167 package with option -x and do a
make install

(The installer does not work without extracting it)

Now copy the GL header from to extracted installer to /usr/include/GL

Now edit the xorg.conf to get 1280x800 working:

first, edit Section "Monitor":

ModelName "1280x800 @ 60 Hz"
HorizSync 31.5-51

# mode generated with http://zaph.com modelinegenerator
Mode "1280x800"
DotClock 75.42
HTimings 1280 1304 1384 1520
VTimings 800 803 806 827
EndMode

...then, edit Section "Device":

Section "Device"
Identifier "device1"
# Driver "vesa"
Driver "nvidia"
Option "DPMS"
Option "IgnoreEDID" "true"
EndSection

now, edit Section "Screen":

Subsection "Display"
Depth 24
Virtual 1280 800
EndSubsection

- now "init 5" and try a modprobe nvidia and start
X

...that's it!

We now have a working 1280x800 @ 60 Hz.

Hi,

forget the last posting! It's not necessary to upgrade your kernel with mandrake 10.1. Just take the default 2.6.8.1-12mdk kernel and everything will work with the 7167 drivers. The key to success: "modprobe agpgart" is your friend! Do it before starting the installer! Even on a PCI-Express notebook!

dunno if it's correct, I've got the same laptop and I solutioned using this conf:
Code:
Section "Monitor"

    Identifier "X-Black TFT"
    HorizSync 29 - 49
    VertRefresh 0-60
# 1280x800 @ 50.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 41.20 kHz; pclk: 68.56 MHz
    Modeline "1280x800_50.00" 68.56 1280 1336 1472 1664 800 801 804 824 -HSy
nc +Vsync

EndSection
and then
Code:
Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen 1"
    Device "GeForce 6200"
    Monitor "X-Black TFT"
    DefaultDepth 24
    Subsection "Display"
        Depth 24
        Modes "1280x800"
        ViewPort 0 0
    EndSubsection
EndSection
this works, using a 60Hz does not work and xorg reports an outofrange frequency.
