Default Apple isn't the only one with a reality distortion field.

Yes, I am a Dell-hater, and any ammo I can use against Dell is good news for me

I like Dell. They take expensive LCDs and sell them at reasonable prices mere mortals can afford. I've owned 4 Dell panels in a row and have been satisfied with each and every one of them. 2000FP, 2001FP, 2005FPW, and 2405FPW.

My wife's Dimension 4500 was just fine - lasted for almost two years before I built another AMD machine and sold it.

The only thing I don't like is the heat their SFF machines produce. That, and the regular non-gold support is kind of a PITA when you get someone that doesn't speak clearly or doesn't listen well.

I like dell as well, they gave me a $400 discount on a laptop for being in the military, and anytime I had a hardware problem they would send somebody right to my house to fix it within two days.

Their monitors are nice because they take someone else's panel and rebadge it, then sell it at a reasonable price. My 2405FPW is a Samsung panel and my 2005FPW is an LG panel. The 2000FP was a BenQ and I'm not sure what the 2001FP was.

Their PCs are just so-so IMO. They aren't an enthusiast box but as a corporate machine they aren't any worse than Compaq or HP.

I just dislike Dell, for no reason than the fact they are Dell. Well I take that back, they seem to be in-tow innovation wise. They wait for someone else to do something cool before doing it themselves. They are kinda the "Wal-Mart" of computers to me.

Dell makes good, large (operative word) LCD monitors. Their 17-19-inch displays suck, though. I also like their laptops a lot. I had one and it was a rock for the year or so I had it, and the person I sold it to has had no problems either.

Dell builds about the best quality stuff you can build for the price point. I am not a big fan of their lower end products (notebooks and desktops) but you get what you pay for.

Compare that to their mid-high end stuff and they are a lot better quality, lot better build.

I am typically using Latitudes and Optiplex's at work so I have a higher level of QC that went into my systems.

Wrt the article, the white-box products probably were not selling well because people do identify with the name. There is a reason you can buy Dell's low end systems at Sam's and other places. Name brand recognition.

@ the end of the day, nothing sells better than marketing and recognition and few brands have more recognition.

Dell is the only pc i would buy from a company.... Ive had numerous ones thru the years (laptops) and I have a dell here at work. I wouldnt touch HP, compaq, Emachine, with a 10 foot poles dick. And he big boys who make their $4000+ systems are a joke.

Dell makes a good $499.99 PC for people who do the basic web surfing, email, office apps and simple stuff like that. Dell makes some nice monitors and they have the BEST looking 42" Plasma I've ever seen.
