Default x.org issues - (EE) No devices detected.

Hello,

Ever since I upgraded from XFree86 4.3 to x.org 6.8.2 (I'm running the Ubuntu Hoary pre-release), I haven't been able to use the NVidia drivers (1.0-6629 and 1.0-7174). My problem is that I am getting an '(EE) No devices detected.' error.

As mentioned, it used to work before - it seems that my GeForce 5500 card isn't being recognised, for reasons completely unknown to me, as all I've changed was the X server.

I can get the X server up and running by using the nv driver. There were also no installation issues, other than the usual RivaFB warning (which didn't stop XFree86 from working with the official driver).

I have uninstalled the old version, re-installed, updated my kernel and kernel headers, but all to no avail. I'm running the latest module-init-tools, I've made sure that I've 'rmmod nvidia' before installing, rebooted many times, upgraded from x.org 6.8.1 to 6.8.2 but nothing has helped.

This is the xorg.conf output (in the next post as well, as the BBS rejected it as being too long):

See my link above http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=48598

I was getting the same messages. Worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that doesn't help, in that 'make cloneconfig' failed to work.

I'll take a look at the BIOS next time I reboot. So the values should be the opposite of what you wrote in your message to which you linked? If I change these, are they likely to affect my Win2000 installation (I'd prefer not to have to worry about flicking back and forth between settings when booting)?

As mentioned, the weird part is that with XFree86 there was no issue.
