Default Re: how to install driver on FC4 AMD64?

I meant "--target=x86_64".
Now,
ln -sf ls -l /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.x/linux-2.6.x /usr/src/linux

Default Re: how to install driver on FC4 AMD64?

PHP Code:
[root@m4rtin SPECS]# ln -sf ls -l /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.x/linux-2.6.x /usr/src/linux
ln: ongeldige optie -- l
Probeer
`ln --help' voor meer informatie.
it means that -l is not an option for ln

i tried:

PHP Code:
[root@m4rtin SPECS]# ln -sf  /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.x/linux-2.6.x /usr/src/linux
but the rpmbuild still gives that error

i feel such a noob

Sorry... I'm a bit distracted today...

ln -sf /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.11 /usr/src/linux.

Suggestion:
If you're new to Linux, I'd suggest you stick to the older Fedora Core 3.
Using the FC4 beta without sufficient Linux experience will be a source of much frustration...

Cheers,
Gilboa

I was forced to use FC4 because FC3 wouldnt install because of my sata driver

edit:

PHP Code:
[root@m4rtin src]# ls /usr/src/linux/linux-2.6.11/
arch     crypto         include  kernel-2.6.11-x86_64.config  mm              scripts
configs  Documentation  init     lib                          net             security
COPYING  drivers        ipc      MAINTAINERS                  README          sound
CREDITS  fs             kernel   Makefile                     REPORTING
-BUGS  usr

ln -sf /usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.11/linux-2.6.11/ /usr/src/linux

i tried this because the nvidia installer look voor /include in /usr/src/linux so, its right when i make that symlink, hold on, gonna try the installer.

edit:

PHP Code:
ls /usr/src/linux
arch     Documentation  ipc                          Makefile        scripts
configs  drivers        kernel                       mm              security
COPYING  fs             kernel
-2.6.11-x86_64.config  net             sound
CREDITS
include        lib                          README          usr
crypto   init           MAINTAINERS                  REPORTING
-BUGS

ls
/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/
kernel-2.6.11
still getting the error from rpmbuild

Default Re: how to install driver on FC4 AMD64?

You are going to WAY too much work to do this. All you need to do is install the x86-64 RPM for kernel-devel, you don't need to rebuild anything. You can get the latest version here:
ftp://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub...4/Fedora/RPMS/
There is a separate directory for x86-64, make sure you use that one and not the i386 one.

After you've installed the kernel-devel package (and the latest kernel) you should download the latest NVIDIA binaries for x86-64 from here (top one):
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_a...y_archive.html

Once you've downloaded the driver put it somewhere easy to remember (/root is usually a good spot) and reboot in "single user mode". Fedora Core 4 defaults to GRUB so what you do is hit "e" to edit the top GRUB item and then select the line for the kernel and hit "e" to edit that line, just add a space and then the word "single" (no quotes) or a numeric "1" (no quotes). Once you've loaded into single user mode execute the driver (you may need to modify the permissions by using "chmod 775 <driver file>" first).

If you need any more help you can try the readme, if you haven't edited your X.org config you'll need to do that.

Additional Note: The above listed directory is for the development version of Fedora Core 4 ("Rawhide"), you may want to use the "stable" version so you'll have to poke around the FTP site to find that or use the kernel-devel file found on the x86-64 CD.

Additional Note 2: "libc" has two versions now, the old one is kept in the folder /lib/obsolete/linuxthreads/ for i386 and /lib64/obsolete/linuxthreads/ for x86-64. To use one of these "special" versions of libc that is for older programs you should execute a program like this:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/lib64/obsolete/linuxthreads/ ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-7174-pkg2.run
