So how do you tell it to look at an exe that isn't called doom3?

Well it's not automatic

I meant that these functions needs to be coded into the games fragment programs or pixel shaders to take effect. Adding the centroid texture sampling into existing fragments or shaders is very easy because this took only 1 centroid specific attribute

- I did also one comparison between the R580 and the G80. The R580's MSAA quality is not even close to G80's and those artifacts and interpolation errors ("white dots"), huh...

R580 =vs= G80 !link fixed

The textures in the G80 shot look blurred compared to the R580, look at the floor and even at the gun. That might just be because of texture filtering but I'm afraid The centroid way of sampling and blending pixels for AA is a slightly blurring method, much like ATI 6x very-scattered-grid? Id rather have sharp AA then slightly blurred AA edges I think. G80 16x and 8x sampling is just more samples in the same area/pixel and not taken from neighbouring pixels area?

is this quincuncx blurring all over again?

The R580 using much higher LOD (probably optimized bilinear filtering) and specular tex lookup is replaced with math. Replacing tex lookup with math improves details but can cause artifacts and errors in sampling. Also texture aliasing and "shimmering" is much more obvious with the R580 than the G80.

Centroid texture sampling only affects to the polygons edges.

The G80's filtering is "done right"

Just a quick question - will this mod make any difference to or even work with:

AMD 3200XP+Deluxe/1GB DDR Ram/nVidia 5950FX 256MB/Audigy2/120GB HDD/WinXP Pro

...so, nothing special, quite old, infact!

[EDIT - update] It definitely makes a difference. I compared the system running without the mod, then with and the specular and normal mapping details were very clearly altered, as was the level of overall detail in every map I tried (most of the opening level and several MP maps). Lighting seems to have shifted marginally brighter, but then, as if to compensate there's a much clearer resolution of different colour lights and their overlaps. I'm running at 1280x1024 (Ultra Quality) with no AA and the framerate is around 30fps without any crashing out or glitching.

On the Mod dialogue I cannot enable the following:
NRM Instruction (NV40)
Texture Look-ups
Specular Map Modulate

so I assume these are options specific to later cards than mine, but everything else can be ticked or altered. I set the mod to run at Ultra Quality (RFL). The Mod recognises my GPU and lists it correctly. I'm running v.1.0.1b.

Just thought you'd like to know this thng works with an old card and system like mine. I'm happy with it, anyway!

Perfect timing! I installed Doom 3 yesterday, and I couldn't believe how great it looks. The lighting effects are still top class. I hadn't played this game for over a year, but it still rocks.

And now I'm gonna try this new 3mood for even more graphics pleasure.
