Default system freeze

Using the nvidia drivere freezes my system completely (blank screen, no HD activity, no remote login).

This started some months ago (presumably las november) and since I switched to the "nv" support in XFree86.

I started trying few days ago while upgrading my kernel to 2.6.10.
The system continues to freeze when x starts. I found no useful information in the XFree log file.

Here are some data:
Toshiba Satellite 3000-214
Video GeForce 2 Go
Debian GNU/Linux
kernel 2.6.10
nvidia source/glx 1.0.7174

Sounds a bit like the problems I'm experiencing...have a look here:

Sound familiar? Seems to be Toshiba specific somehow...

not really: I haven't any NVIDIA(0): Bad V_BIOS checksum in the X log.

However I tried loading NVIDIA driver with the options suggested in the thread you mentioned:
NVreg_SoftEDIDs=0 is not recognised
NVreg_Mobile=4 doesn't change very much.

Furthermore, my system ALWAYS freezes; there is no random behaviour.

Thank you anyway,
Alberto

P.S. I included the nvidia bug report to my previous message. If you have a look at it and find anything interesting, please let me know.
