Question "Split Screen" bug with 1920x1080i

I'm driving an HDTV set with an nVidia 5200 card and the 7174 drivers. I have the oddest problem when I select the "nvidia" driver in XF86Config-4. The screen is split in the middle and the content is "wrapped around" the split. Here's a photo:

Choosing "nv" with the same modeline works fine. Previously I had used the 6629 driver and it also worked as expected. There are just a few of us with this problem on the mythtv-users mailing list so far, but we have no solution other than to revert to 6629.

Just thought I'd mention it here in case someone can think of a solution. (And "renderaccel" is not enabled.)

Not that this helps, but I have the "exact" same problem. Also running on a 5200 fx with Driver 7174.

I posted a new thread "Interlaced video modes busted in 1.0-7174 driver", hopefully the NVidia guys will post answers there.

Does any one know if this bug is solved yet? I am running 7667 (with 6200 TC) and looks like it is still there. If any one has a work around, please post here.

Looks like nvidia is not a good choice for HTPC and HDTV. The built in component works with 1920x1080, but is horribly overscanned. So I have to use 1920x1080 VGA out and use a transcoder, but I hit this bug.

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks
SV.

I have exactly the same split screen problem. The best video quality to drive my CRT RPTV is using 1080i. I reverted back to 6629 as liv2cod suggested, it did fix the split screen, but now I hit the bad xv quality bug: unacceptable video quality when using xv.

Does anybody know a driver version which is free from either?

I have seen something similar but only in dual-display (no twinview). I get one screen like that.

And even more odd, the mouse will enter the right display not at the left side, but about half into it (although the picture on that screen is normal).

It is not permanent, in fact I can't reproduce it right now.

My temporary solution so far:

On my 50HDX82, best video quality display mode is 1080i through FX5200 VGA->9A60->Component. DVI connection in 720P video quality is horrible. Probably my TV's bad scaling circuits.

Use following mode lines:

ModeLine "960x540p" 37.26 856 936 1040 1104 480 522 536 563 +hsync +vsync
ModeLine "1080i" 74.52 1712 1872 2080 2208 960 1044 1060 1125 interlace +hsync +vsync

Default mode for X is "1080i".

Under MythTV setup, select different size for UI(1712x960) and TV(856x480).
Mode will be changed automatically to 540p when entering TV. This works around XV quality bug with interlace.

Working NV driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1. NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7676-pkg1 has "split screen" bug in 1080i.

To work around MPlayer in MythVideo, set "-vo gl" for mplayer non-HD playback. Use "-vo xvmc -vc ffmpeg12mc" for HD playback.

I've been in contact with nVidia's Linux support over email about this bug. They are claiming that nobody has ever reported it to them before. Knowing that the bug had certainly been discussed here before, I replied with links to this thread, and I got no reply. This is obviously bad service, but there's still a way to address it without abandoning the time, effort, and money already invested in your cards.

Apparently, they are very particular about how they receive their bug reports. They want to see an nvidia-bug-report.log from immediately after the problem occurs. For details, see this post. Rather than just post it here, send it to the support tech I've been in touch with, Lonni J Friedman: lfriedman@nvidia.com

If everyone who experienced the problem does this, they won't be able to say they don't know about it anymore.
