Default Problems getting 1280x1024 on FX5200

Hi All...

Just need some help with my fx5200. I am using suse 9.2(dual boot) but have no internet access via suse at the moment for reasons I wont go into here. I have a 17" LCD monitor and a FX5200, which, under windows runs fine at 1280x1024, but wont run at this level in suse. It only goes into 1024x768. I have changed the monitor and graphics card under sax2, but wont display it. When I do a hwinfo on both monitor and gfxcard it only shows max res as 1024x768. As I am on windows system now I cant post hwinfo sorry

I have downloaded the latest drivers and installed them (with help from a friend)

I am a NEWBIE!! This is my first foray into the Linux OS.

Be Gentle pls

Thanks in advance

Andrew

Hi,
I do not know hwinfo, must be some suse stuff.

Please post your xorg.conf (you'd find it in /etc/X11)

Or, add 'Load "ddc"' to your modules section in the xorg.conf, Option "DPMS" in your monitor section, and have a look at your modes, which should look like this:
"Screen"
Identifier "Screen0"
Device "Card0"
Monitor "Monitor0"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 1
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600"

(with different settings for depht etc of course.)

Oh, and do not generate modelines, with anything ddc enabled, it is not necessary (or dangerous)

Hi,

please try removing this:

UseModes "Modes[0]"

this:

Section "Modes"
Identifier "Modes[0]"
Modeline "1280x1024" 108.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066
Modeline "640x480" 23.06 640 656 720 800 480 481 484 497
EndSection

and this:

Section "DRI"
Group "video"
Mode 0660
EndSection

Section "Extensions"
EndSection

Please add:
Load "ddc"
to your modules section

and add:
1280x1024 to all dephts in the screen section, then try again.

Default Re: Problems getting 1280x1024 on FX5200

I get the first bits you posted but am un sure if to add these lines or to replace "640x480" with "1280x1024"

ie: what do you mean by this??

and add:
1280x1024 to all dephts in the screen section, then try again.

as I am a newbie could you adjust my conf file that I posted, obviously showing only the modes bits to show what mine should look like and repost please

Thanks
Andrew

Hi,

this:
Section "Modes"
Identifier "Modes[0]"
Modeline "1280x1024" 108.00 1280 1328 1440 1688 1024 1025 1028 1066
Modeline "640x480" 23.06 640 656 720 800 480 481 484 497
EndSection

complete section has to be removed.

And your Screen section should look like this:

Section "Screen"
DefaultDepth 16
SubSection "Display"
Depth 15
Modes "1280x1024" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 16
Modes "1280x1024" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 4
Modes "1280x1024" "640x480"
EndSubSection
SubSection "Display"
Depth 8
Modes "1280x1024" "640x480"
EndSubSection
Device "Device[0]"
Identifier "Screen[0]"
Monitor "Monitor[0]"
EndSection
