Default UT 2003 resolution question

When I am logged into KDE desktop in resolution 1024x768, and I start UT2003, I cannot play the game in a res setting above 1024x768....... to play in 1280x1024 (which I normally use) in Linux, I have to change my desktop settings first, then log out and then back in. Is there any way around this?

Have you tried changing the mode directly in the config file rather than in the game ?

Yup, I added the 1280x1024 option to the x86 config file, then when I rebooted it logged me in in 1280x1024 resolution. I like desktop at 1024x768, but ut2003 res @ 1280x1024....... but I seem to have to have desktop @ 1280x1024 to play the game at that res....

ut2003 config suppports 1280x1024 though? When desktop is has 1280x1024 setting, ut2003 plays in 1280 x 1024, so it must be in config? I will check...

In windows you don't need to have your res set at 1280x1024 in order to have that in a game. I believe it's the same for Linux. The game adjusts its own resolution, so yea try that

Did you add "1280x1024" to the start, or the end, of the relevant Modes line in your Screen section? X starts up in the mode that is listed first, with the other modes available as "backups", or something like that. The important thing is, if you want to start up in 1024x768, make sure that that mode is listed first. HTH.

Yes in windows for UT 2003 it was listed in 640x480. But was still playing up to 1024x768. I am also having another slight prob with ut2003 under Linux. For whatever reason, it takes a year and a day to download maps when playing from my Linux desktop. The config file is set to cable/dsl, and in windows XP maps download in seconds..... any ideas?
