it all depends on what you consider worth it. most programs run the same, including games, so if thats your main factor, i wouldnt change over yet. but if you are one of those people that loves to have what's new right away, then go for it.

this is the work around HP suggests for installing 5550 printer on WinXP x64

Quote:
CAUTION: Do not connect the USB cable from the product to the computer until prompted to do so by the installer.

Click Start.

Click the Printers and Faxes folder.

Click File then select Add Printer. The Add Printer Wizard opens.

Click Next.

Uncheck the Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer checkbox.

Click Next. The Select a Printer Port window opens.

Click Next. The Install Printer Software window opens.

In the Manufacturer list, select HP.

In the Printers list, select hp deskjet 990c.

Click Next. The Name Your Printer window opens.

If the Printer name is OK, click Next.

Click Next. The Printer Sharing window opens.

Select No when prompted Do you want to print a test page.

Click Next. The Completing the Add Printer Wizard window opens.

Click Finish.

NOTE: At this point the driver installation portion of the process is complete.

Connect the USB cable to the printer and the computer.

NOTE: Windows will start the Plug and Play process.

Click Cancel each time a Found New Hardware Wizard window opens.

NOTE: The number of Found New Hardware Wizard windows that open will vary depending on the product plugged into the computer.

In the Printers and Faxes Folder, click once on the hp deskjet 990c printer icon to highlight it.

Click File, and then Properties.

Click the Ports tab

Select USB00x Port. The checkbox should have a check in it. If not, click once to select the port.

Click Close.

Here's the complete list for:

hp printers with native x64 support

hp printers with support planned for Windows XP Professional x64 (workaround available)

hp printers with support planned for Windows XP Professional x64 (no workaround)

hp printers not supported in Windows XP Professional x64 (workaround available)

and the doomed list:
hp printers not supported in Windows XP Professional x64 (no workaround)

Hi. Could someone do me a favour. I messed up my registry a bit and everytime I open folders it opens in new windows and without common tasks showing (it shows explorer instead even though the command is "Open").

Anyway, I need someone who is running XP 64 to go to Start > Run... > regedit and then find the key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell. Now right-click on the word "shell" and export the reg entry and post it up here for me. It doesnt matter if its not perfect I'll take a look through it before installing. I really just need to know which command line switches go with explorer.exe when opening a folder so that common tasks show. I can then apply these to the reg entries for "drive" and "directory" too.

Thanks.

Well, that's just great. My HP 2110 All-in-One is on the list of no planned XP 64 support although there is a work-around to get basic printing capability. I actually use the scanner more than anything though.

Thanks for the list (and link).

have you tried the HP drivers talked about here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=50689

these are beta drivers (not made by HP) but they seem to work with almost every HP printer....i used them for my All-in-One and i can use the scanner, the printer, and everything else with out any problems....
