Geforce4 MX 420 drivers

I installed a geforce 4 mx 420, and its seriously rendering at about the same speed as my geforce2 mx. Are there any specific drivers you would recommend for this graphics card (I have the newest installed).

That's because the card pretty much is a GeForce2 MX.

Unfortunately Sat is correct. The GeForce4 MX (NV17 & 18) line is basically the same performance as a GeForce2 GTS/Ultra (NV15). You need a GeForce3 core (NV20) before you see noticable performance improvements.

The NV1x core (GF2 and GF4MX) lacks some of the pixel shaders and all of the vertex shaders (or vice versa; I never remember) that were added to the NV2x (GF3 and GF4Ti) core. In spring of 2002, NVIDIA took some serious maligning from reviewers and pundits for marketing the NV17 as a GeForce "4", and rightfully so.

The NV1x has no pixel shader capability. I think the 4 MX may have a vertex shader, though I don't remember.

I know they are very similar, but what driver would you recommend using?

Of course we could answer your original question. 44.03 were very good to me for GeForce 4 GPUs.

I second that, the 44.03 drivers worked very well with my geforce4 mx440.

No, actually it's much faster than the GF2 MX. I have both of them and I can get a 3DMark2001SE score of 38xx and the GF2MX can only get 16xx, so I know for a fact that the GF4MX420/440 is a much faster card.

Dude, thats a gain of 2fps...not much faster at all.

What cpu do you have because my gf2 mx gave a 3d2001 score of 2960 when used with an athlon xp 2000? However that is much lower than the score I used to get with my gf4 mx440 (original version before they started releasing them as the geforce mx4000 with 64bit memory) which was 6367!
