I got it working with one CRT and a TV. But i have a really nasty problem that came in with the new drivers:
As soon as i log out of KDE, the screen locks up (can't switch to a vc or do anything else). I can still ssh into the box and reboot it. So it is not completely frozen.

Here is the part of my XF86Config:

Default Does this feature even work?

Has anyone had any luck getting separate X sessions to load on two monitors? This "New Feature" doesn't so much work....

ok, phew, i'm glad i'm not the only one with this problem. i'm using a geforce4 ti4600. i want to have two screens: my viewsonic monitor, and my tv. i setup my XF86Config file as suggested by "APPENDIX R: CONFIGURING MULTIPLE X SCREENS ON ONE CARD", except i make the appropriate tv-out changes to my second screen. i do not experience a crash in my situation like most of yall do, but rather when X starts, kde comes up fine on my monitor while my tv screen just flickers for a bit, then goes blank. when i try to run a command like 'mplayer movie.avi -display :1', mplayer complains about no display :1 being open.

i'm going to try dek's setup now...

please post any addition info if yall get it working. i'll do the same...

ok, here's a silly question. how do i test that it worked?

if it worked, then 'mplayer movie.avi -display :1' should play the movie on the tv screen, right?

thanks,

awesome, it works now...=) using dek's XF86Config options as an outline, i got everything working well. i don't suffer from the bug dek describes either.

there is one small problem. there is very slight discoloration with the tv output...

thanks,

Checkout nv-tv-out. It allows you to adjust the hue, saturation, etc of the TV encoding chip. http://sourceforge.net/projects/nv-tv-out/

I have a Dell Inspiron 8200 with a GeForce 4. With the new driver I couldn't get multiple X screens working either (I got segfaults), and when I tried standard nView with a single X screen, I got periodic hangs when exiting X. I am back to version 3123 (which works well with all tested LCD/TV/CRT combinations). I hope nVidia gets out a new working driver soon.

All of my testing was done with AGP disabled in both the kernel and in the XF86Config file.

I got multiple x screens working with a Quadro4 700 XGL without a hitch by following the Appendix in the release notes.

All works well except that when I logout of X, the system freezes and can't recover unless I reboot or remotely kill off the X server. This freeze goes away as soon as I disable the second screen (comment out one line in XF86Config-4 file)

Has anyone seen this behaviour or have any ideas what might cause it?

I got this working fine on a Q4-280NVS, but also have the problem that whenever I shut down the xServer it crashes the display. The system must be rebooted to restore it.

I got the following response from nvidia tech support regarding this problem:

Greetings. We're aware of the problem and hope to have this resolved
in a future release. It appears to be an issue with the XFree86
RAC code pulling the card off the bus prematurely, causing registers
reads in the kernel module to fail.

The only thing I can suggest with the 4191 driver is to change your
default run level such that the system boots to the vga console,
and then startx manually.

Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

I apologize for the inconvenience,

ahh, i guess the reason why i wasn't experiencing yall's crash bug is cuz my linux system boots into run level 3.

i did notice something very annoying while using multiple x screens. screen 0.0 gets the video overlay by default. i don't know about yall, but i use screen 0.1 for my tv and i want to play movies on it. and since screen 0.1 doesn't get the video overlay, the movies play with nasty tearing effects. my current fix for the bug is having my desktop startup on screen 0.1 and the tv use screen 0.0. but kde is really weird about this and its not an optimal fix.

nvidia tech support say they would look into future releases of the driver allowing you to specify which screen gets the video overlay...

if yall are using screen 0.1 for tv out and playing movies like me, please hassle nvidia to include it in the next release...=)
