Today I'm gonna get my new pc (with a 7800GTX). Now I have doubts about the cpu, I was going to get the X2 3800+, but I heard the 3500+ is faster for gaming. What would you recommend?

With the new drivers released and to be released the GPU will take advantage of the second core but its not a huge leap in performance. If money is an issue go for the 3500, its a great chip and can OC to nice heights. Dual Core is really only worth it for being future proof and if you got the extra money to throw around.

yeah, but I don't want to spend 250€ on a cpu that's not suitable for the future, is the 3800+ X2 a good game performer, coupled with a 7800GTX?

I'd go with the X2 3800+ and overclock that sucker..
Also why is this in the NVIDIA GeForce 6 and 7 Series section? |

IMHO you should definately go for X2 3800+ and with some decent cooling ( or even on stock for that matter ) it should overclock quite well ( upto X2 4400+ speeds ) . Think of X2 as getting two processors instead of one . Although the performance doesnt exactly double , it does give a boost when you are multitasking . Newer games like F.E.A.R. and City of villians show upto 10 ~15 % increase in performance with Dual Core processors .You should the release 80 drivers threads over in the forceware section , they had some very good performance comparison figures there . Doom 3 , if i remember correctly , also benefits from it . So , overall you should be very well equipped for the future by going with dual core
.Edit : Saved you the hassle of searching : http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...t=57444&page=8 Look at the "therapture" post , 5th one from above .
