I took the fan out of mine and put some lith grease in the bottom of it. Put it back on and did not put the top cover on and it is working great so far. Been running for 3 months that way.

Same here. Everything's ready except that the 4400+ is not yet shipped.

The fanless A8N-SLI Premium looks good
, hope they'll use that design in future motherboards.got my Deluxe replaced with the new fan, but never going to buy another mb that doesn't use passive cooling for the chipset again. |

Had this problem also with the fan. After about 3 months of action that little bad boy started buzzing like crazy. Figured I would just replace it with an aftermarket fan, I went the local shop and got a coolmaster blue ice SLC-S41-U1. Nice little fan, only 1000 Yen (10 bucks american) and come to find out that the chip is uneven and the thermal sticky pad on the bottom can't get enough grip.
Sadly I'm stationed overseas in the Japanese equivalent of Nowhere, Nebraska, so I have to travel about an hour to above said local shop. So, I decided to pull a Mcguiver. 1 paperclip, the rubber grip from a ball point pen, and a zip tie seemed to do the trick. I'd have pictures but I just got the whole rig set back up heh. Btw, I'm glad I found this site. I'm going to be sure to call Asus and get that replacment fan asap. Thanks for the good info all. ![]() |

not Asus fault for sure because of the fact that ATX mobos are not intended to be installed with their legs up in the air!

I have a A8N-SLI Premium inside a LianLi PC-V1200 running right now
![]() I knew about the issue before I bought the board but I hate crappy chipset fans... Theoretically heatpipes work in every direction but sadly, gravity also has some effect on them. I didn't have much time for testing yet but I did a quick check using a infrared thermometer. It revealed that the temperature of the heatpipe socket increases from ~45°C to ~55°C when running flipped-ATX. Not good but actually not as bad as I thought. You can run the system that way without problems but I can't say how long Someone over at hardforum.com says he has a A8N-SLI Premium flipped inside a Silverstone case for some time now and has not encountered any instabilities so far, but I wouldn't bet on it (his case has better airflow in that area). I'm currently looking for a small passive heatsink that can be installed on the heatpipe socket. If anyone knows a good solution let me know. The only thing that I can think of at the moment would be attaching a Zalman NB cooler on it using thermal glue. But a reversible solution would be better.I'm currently running with the case lying on the floor until I find a solution. If nothing helps, I still have the possibility to switch to a Deluxe. |

I'm there too guys.mine died today after about one month and a half of living its life to the fullest of ~10k rpm.
at least it made funny noises when dying, preventing its death from going unnoticed and the consequent damages that follow. currently using a strong 40mm fan on the same Asus heatsink, waiting on new Asus HSF to arrive.
