Interesting and I will be amazed if Sony pulls off all of what there claiming the PS3 will be able to do for under $400. DVR and now Linux.

There was an available kit through Sony for the PS2 to add on an 80gb harddrive + USB keyboard & Mouse + Linus OS for like $199 or something like that. I'd never considering buying this for my PS3 nor trying to convert a console to a PC, thats why I have a computer

You got a PC, right.... your Pentium 4 4GHz will take 6 hours to complete 1 SETI@Home task. That too long to do it, have PS3 turn into computer will be millions times better, PS3 will take 5 mins or less to complete 1 SETI@Home task, that the equation of 54 PCs.

Anyone else catch where he mentions that any OS can find its way onto the PS3? Imagine actually installing Windows XP and having drivers to be able to actually PC Game! I wonder if thats possible...

Dont get anyones hopes up. Also even though unlikely to happen, what you said equates to the doom of the pc as we know it if you can load windows are play pc games on for at the most $400. And I doubt Sony wants MS to develope a PS3 only OS and end up making more off the PS3 than them.

Don't know about MS but on the technical side according to Kutaragi, Linux wont be the only OS able to run on the PS3...

The kernel will be running on the Cell, and multiple OSes will be running on top of that as applications. Of course, the PS3 can run Linux. If Linux can run, so can Lindows. Other PC Operating Systems can run too, such as Windows and Tiger (Max OS X 10.4), if the publishers want [them] to do so. Maybe a new OS might come out.
