Default Help a newbie

I want to download and install a web browser on my Solaris 10 instance. I am an almost total newbie with Unix Administration, and a total newbie with Solaris Administration.

Can someone tell me how I can find instructions on installing a browser like Mozilla or Firefox on Solaris 10. I went to Mozilla.org, and found Mozilla for Sol10, but the readme gave no installation instructions.

Thanks.

This is almost certainly the wrong forum for this type of question, but since I happened along...

Solaris 10 already ships with the Mozilla web browser and Sun contributes builds of firefox to mozilla.org. If you're running under Java Desktop System on Solaris 10, when you select the "web browser" icon, you'll get Mozilla.

If you want to run it from command line for some reason, you can run /usr/sfw/bin/mozilla

You'll find the Sun contributed firefox builds at:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/fire...l#othersystems

All you should have to do is explode the archive, then run the binary:
bunzip2 firefox1.0.6-i386-pc-solaris2.10-gtk2+xft.tar.bz2
tar -xvf firefox1.0.6-i386-pc-solaris2.10-gtk2+xft.tar
firefox/firefox

You'll probably want to move the firefox directory somewhere that makes sense (i.e. home directory if it's for one user, or /opt if it's for many users).

You may want to ping the forum at http://forum.sun.com/index.jspa for other Solaris questions and/or the discussion list and forums at http://opensolaris.org.
