Angry Re: first display on twinview

Fortunately I found this thread so I can give up trying to get my LCD working as the primary display.

Unfortunately I found it after editing and cursing at xorg.conf for 4 days.

So nVidia, please, can we drop the corporate and:

a)
a1) get a couple guys working on a fix
a2) inform the public that its being worked on
a3) give a rough estimate for a release date

b)
b1) ignore the pleas of this forum
b2) tell us that you will not attempt to fix the issue, not now, not ever

c)
c1) trade my CRT for a spanking brand new LCD for no charge

According to this thread, the issue is fixed (see post #2):

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72864

However, no matter what I do I can't get it to work. Anyone know how to correctly use 'UseDisplayDevice' with twinview?

I believe that is incorrect.

As quoted earlier in this very thread:

UseDisplayDevice does work when forcing an LCD to be the primary monitor.
However, I believe this only works with Xinerama because it requires two devices and screens to be set up. Then it is possible to force a monitor to each device with the UseDisplayDevice option. It doesn't seem to work with TwinView because it only requires one X-screen to be set up.

From nVidia's xconfig manual

Quote:
TwinView - A single X screen is used. The NVIDIA driver conceals all information about multiple display devices from the X server; as far as X is concerned, there is only one screen.

For now I ditched TwinView and set up Xinerama because it just works.

I attached my working Xinerama enabled xorg.conf file for anyone interested.

Since the moderators are doing such a good job of dodging the issue would it be prudent to abandon hope and remember to buy an ATI card next time?

This probably have nothing to do this problem , but running nvidia-settings and selection "sync on this monitor" fixed the problem for me with 2 LCDs . FWIW.

It seems the devs are treating any solution to this as a "would be nice" issue, but it actually causes problems when you're using TV-out along with a DVI connected LCD monitor. On a geforce 5, the TV-out has greater priority than the DVI port, and is always given primary display.

Sure, there are workarounds to get GL and XV to sync with the LCD, but that really shouldn't be necessary. My LCD needs to be the one cloned to the TV, not the other way round.

@martini, since the nvidia representatives are not responding it can be a presumed "no" to your question. Otherwise they would be enthusiastically reporting the good news. I'm going out to get an ATI card tonight because I just want my system to work properly.

well, they have replied, and said it was going to be fixed in the next drivers, which it wasn't. So I'm guessing it's a bit more complicated to fix than they had planned.

(oh... and.. heh, getting an ATI card REALLY wont help you , trust me on this one).
