Today, NVIDIA will be announcing the GeForce 7800 GT. As with the GeForce 7800 GTX, the GeForce 7800 GT will be available for purchase from a number of on-line retailers, which carries a suggested retail price of $449.
New NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT Available for Back-to-School Season The MSRP of the GeForce 6800 GT is being lowered to $299 and the GeForce 6800 is dropping to $199. ![]() The GeForce 7800 GT (bottom card) operates at a core frequency of 400MHz and is outfitted with 256MB of DDR3 memory running at 500MHz (1GHz effective). ![]() With 7 vertex processing units and 20 pixel pipelines, the GeForce 7800 GT boasts the same feature-set as the GeForce 7800 GTX. ![]() ![]() NVIDIA recommends a 350W power supply for systems that have a single GeForce 7800 GT. ![]() ![]() Test System The test system consists of an Athlon 64 4000+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, 1GB of DDR400 RAM, Windows XP SP2, and reference driver 77.77. AA and AF were set to application-controlled and the image setting was set to high quality. Two games were chosen that are well-known for the demands they place on the graphics sub-system. In-game graphics settings were at their highest level, which includes Ultra water detail in Far Cry. The reference card arrived on Tuesday. Had I paid attention to a known issue that NVIDIA furnishes in their driver release notes, more time could have been devoted to benchmarking ![]() Doom 3 Performance ![]() ![]() Far Cry Performance ![]() ![]() An interesting observation concerning the GeForce 7800 GT is revealed when its price and performance are compared to the GeForce 7800 GTX. At $449, the GeForce 7800 GT is roughly 75% of the price of the GeForce 7800 GTX, which was $599 at launch. However, based on the benchmark results from Doom 3 and Far Cry, the GeForce 7800 GT delivers approximately 92% of the performance of the GeForce 7800 GTX in Doom 3 and 88% in Far Cry. If a similar price/performance ratio is found in other previews, the GeForce 7800 GT will be a big win for NVIDIA and a big win for consumers |

Looks like some decent numbers especially for Doom3 at 12x10, 4AA/8AF.

That's a really nice price, it also helps to shut some people up.

Just great....The midrange card is almost as fast as my 7800GTX
And if you unlock the pipes it is just as fast in some things.

And if one overclock the GT to 430 (and unlock the pipes) on the core, im almost shure it will be right up there with the 7800GTX.

You mean you didn't think of that when you bought it? The same happened with the 6800GT/Ultra...

Both cards are CPU limited, look at the graphs for 3DM01,03,05.Even for the GT astock settings.

Haha well sucks for those that splurged a lot of $ on SLI but even I spent over $600 and its value has or will plummet with the release of a 7800 GT with unlockable pipes. Oh well I'll just wait for the GTX prices to come down even more so I can get another for SLI action. Anyway, GT + low price + unlockable pipes = R520 DOA. BTW this guy has a 7800 GT already but hasn't had success in unlocking the pipes yet: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=938944
