I'm still holding out to see what ATI has this fall. I'm hoping for more bandwith from them, and seeing as a x850 xt pe holds it's own in d3d against the 7800GT, i'm thinking we'll see a clone of last generation...ati ontop in d3d, and nvidia ontop in opengl. If the 7800 Gt sells @ $399, it's a great deal.....but if it stays @ $449 for a while...ehhhhh.....pricewatch has 7800gtx's for $50 more. Not smart pricing if you ask me.

What is the deal with that "500MHz, 1 GHz effective" RAM clocking?

What bothers me the most is that the 7800GT pcb doens't seem to support 512mb ram.

Well, I JUST ordered a 6800GT to replace my 5950U. It was more of a tide-me-over until I can get a rig with an X2 4400 and either dual 7800GTXs or dual R520s.
A mere 6800GT. Well, it came to about $290 at MonarchComputer and as MSRP was just dropped to $299 I probably could have gotten a better buy next week. Oh well, live and learn. ;-) |
