Arrow /usr/lib/libGL.so.1: no version information available

It seems that my system has partial hardware GL accelleration, strangely enough. Most 3D apps run without a hitch (e.g. Cedega, Glest, Racer, Dominions2, Chromium, ArmageTron, Zsnes+GL, PPRacer, BZflag...), actually performing quite well. Unfortunately, some run like they're being software rendered (e.g. Enemy Territory, Savage, Neverball...). For instance, I used to get 60-120FPS on Savage, now it looks fine but runs at 1-15FPS. Same story with ETlinux and Neverball. I had my drivers working perfectly previously, could be several driver revisions back. I don't have time to play games often, so I'm not sure when this problem cropped up. One obvious symptom is an error that Savage spits out as its loading:
Code:
./silverback.bin: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1: no version information available (required by ./silverback.bin)

Default Re: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1: no version information available

I have a binary and a set of so-libraries compiled on Fedora Core 1 machine (which had nvidia-5336 libGL). If I execute the program in CentOS4.1 (or Fedora Core 3) machine where I have xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL (for Intel 845G), I also get the "no version information available" message. To my understanding that message is a warning from the dynamic linker, which expects version strings from libraries to ensure match/requisities. Apparently, not all libraries are compiled with proper version information. I expect the 845G to be slow, so I am not dissappointed.

BTW, 'ldd -v file' shows version information, and 'man ld.so' has some debug options.

What you're saying makes sense, but I'm not sure to go about fixing it. I've never had this problem before, and systems with almost the same rollout as me aren't having the same issue either. The interesting thing to me is that some apps seem to run pretty well, other run horribly like they're being rendered in mesa. Any insight?

OK, I was wrong. It is happening to other machines with the same setup. I'm sitting in front of a workstation here at my work, and indeed it also reports that the drivers are working properly, yet ET-Linux runs like its being rendered in Mesa. Also, GL-accellerated KDE themes, for instance Crystal-GL, crash the theme chooser the instant you select them. That theme worked fine before...

I just tried compiling a new kernel and rebuilding the drivers... no love. Went from 2.6.11 to 2.6.12, got exactly the same results as before.

Interesting... my brother is using a slightly earlier build of the 2.6.11 kernel, and his 3D accelleration is flawless. Perhaps it wasn't the driver upgrade that crippled my 3D performance, but my kernel upgrade. Does anybody have any input on the matter?

Interesting... the OpenGL information displayed by the KDE Control Module shows that I am in fact using nvidia-provided GL, but the kernel module is listed as 'unknown'. Interesting, since it looks very much to me like the kernel module is loading properly, at least as evidenced by this lsmod output:

Code:

Lightbulb Useful debugging info?

I pulled this info from the crash which occurs when I try and use the CrystalGL theme:

Code:
0xffffe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
#0 0xffffe410 in __kernel_vsyscall ()
#1 0xb7287303 in __waitpid_nocancel () from /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0
#2  0xb7b6cd0c in KCrash::defaultCrashHandler () from /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.4
#3 <signal handler called>
#4 0xb5d301ca in _nv000104gl () from /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.1
Does anybody have any info that could at least get me on the right track? I've been scouring forums all over the web, and I can't find anything pertinent to the problem I'm having. Some of my friends are having the exact same problems as me now that they're updating their kernels, and I'd really like to find out the cause and solution. Thanks!

Is there a reason why you've set this option?
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "false"
