Default Solaris 10 Networking

I have an nforce2 mb, and I'm trying to setup Solaris 10. My mb doesn't have the nvidia nic, but does have a 3com 3c905b chip. Can anyone point me in the direction of some information on how to set this up correctly? The hcl says the driver comes with the os, but, apparently, it wasn't detected during the install.

Thanks in advance!

System Specs: 1 gb Corsair XMS Ram, Athlon XP Mobile 2600+, FIC AU13 Motherboard, Nvidia 6600GT Agp, Soundstorm Audio, 3com 3c905b based Nic on motherboard.

I don't know if there's an nvnet(4) driver for Sol10 as I've not been using it for that long. I do know that there's the ndiswrapper that was imported from FreeBSD. You might try the Windows NDIS drivers in Sol10. This probably isn't supported by nVidia nor Sun.

Marovincian, to activate ipv4 networking on Solaris 10:

Manually, you can do the following with either the elxl (mine; used in the rest
of this note where the interface name should go) or pcelx device (use prtconf
-D command to check which one you have and whether or not the system
recognized it):

ifconfig elxl0 plumb
ifconfig elxl0 XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
ifconfig elxl0 up
route add default XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

You will then want to do the following:

a) edit /etc/hosts and add relevant local names & numbers
b) add /etc/resolv.conf specifying at least your nameservers;

lines are of form:

nameserver XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

c) modify /etc/nsswitch.conf to add dns to the end of the hosts line
d) add /etc/defaultrouter to have routing taken care of at boot;

contents should be the IP of your gateway machine

e) to have the interface added and configured automatcially at boot time,
add a file /etc/hostname.elxl0

contents should be the IP of your adapter

There is more to the story if you want to mess with ipv6
