Default Tearing

I have a bit of tearing on fast action or panning scenes, and I was wondering if there was anyway to get rid of it. Here's my info and part of my config for xfree. Using xv output on mplayer gives huge tearing, x11 has minimal but still annoying, double buffering doesn't do much either. Using RightOf also lead to quality loss in those scenes, so i just decided to use a virtual resolution.

ZeroKun,
You can try exporting __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=1. See /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README.txt for more details on what this accomplishes.

Thanks,
Lonni

For movie output you could try to enable 'sync to vblank' in nvidia-settings under 'X Server Video Settings'. The __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK variable only works for opengl programs. (Make sure that NV17 Video Texture / NV05 Video Blitter is used for Xv; It is likely used already because you are using twinview)

Yeah Ive had those checked all the time. Using gl and gl2 gives worse video quality so I haven't used those.

Default Re: Tearing

are you using Twinview?

If you have a TV at 60 Hz and a monitor
at 85 Hz (for example) it's impoosible to mantain sync in the two
displays.

You must try a multimonitor configuration with independant desktops.
Or put yor monitor at 60Hz (if it's a CRT maybe isn't a good idea)

Mind telling me how to do that? I followed one guide, but nothing came up on my TV. Here's my full config.

Ok, the BusID was very important, and I found out it was 0:10:0, unlike what someone told me, boo on them :P. Thanks for your help, I'll watch some videos to see how this solution worked out.

Vertical pans look good, but horizontal ones don't play smoothly. Is there anything I can do about this?
