I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but I couldn't an issue similar to this in the forum. My Ti 4400 has a Conexant tv encoder with limited overscan ability in the NVIDIA driver. It's either full on, or full off. I was able to get a decent overscan on my TV using the NVTV utility, but it only works correctly if my monitor is attached. With the monitor disconnected, my TV display goes haywire when I activate my NVTV settings. I've been racking my brain on this and can't figure out the cause.

You can consider nvtv a driver in the form of a program. The program itself accesses the card and programs the videocard to go to tvout mode. This is very hacky and dangerous as it messes various registers without the driver knowing about it. It can causes the issues you describe.

Doh! No sooner than I post did I figure out the solution. I specifically specifed my TV as my monitor in the XF86Config file and passed a "-1" parameter to nvtv to indicate the first head on the video card..
