Post nvmixer settings reset upon reboot

Hi there, I have an Asus A7N266-C motherboard with Soundstorm, running on Mandriva (Mandrake 10.2). I am connected via digital out to a DD speaker system, and every time I set the speaker setup to 5.1, upon reboot it resets to 2 speakers.

I've placed a copy of my /etc/modprobe.conf file below. If I read (and understood) the documentation correctly, in order for the settings to be remembered I have to add in two lines into the /etc/modprobe.conf file in bold below, but this doesn't seem to be working.

Another problem I've found is that the volume settings in nvmixer have no impact, it's always blasting out at the same volume, which is much louder than the default in windows. Is there a way of controlling the volume?

My /etc/modprobe.conf file contents relating to sound:

alias sound-slot-0 nvsound
install nvsound /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install nvsound ; sleep 1; /usr/bin/nvmix-reg -f /etc/nvmixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove nvsound { /usr/bin/nvmix-reg -f /etc/nvmixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; {; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove nvsound
Who ate my framerates????
