heck I did'nt even know this game was ready to be released I am glad it has a single player and not like Q3 ,I will get the Special Edition simply because it is the DVD version,I don't much care about the other games that comes with it since I already have Q2 and both expansion packs.

Word - but now, you have them all on ONE disgustingly awesome DVD.

Still think its bullsh!t we have to pay extra for a DVD that comes standard in UK

Gotta give to the publishers for really exploiting the opportunity to make money off of us

At least in the US we have a saying for that type of situation: "oh freaking well"

Who cares! You think every country is going to have everything exactly the same? We've gotton cheaper stuff than them before. It's life. Rule of thumb: if you can't find a good enough reason to move there, then you havn't found a good enough reason to complain

They're doing it because people in the US are still in the stone age and don't have DVD drives...and they're too stupid to realize the difference between DVDs and CDs and then buy the DVD version and get pissed off when it won't run in their CD drive. That's why they don't release a standard DVD edition here.

Besides, the special edition has plenty of stuff for the extra ten bucks...no way in hell can you find the Quake 2 expansion packs for ten bucks, let alone Quake 2 and the Quake 4 making-of videos. I hardly call that exploiting.

I think it is just that domestic publishers are gay.

Good question...but it is. They (Activision) got tons of returned games when they tried releasing a standard DVD version.

There was an article on Computer Games magazine a few months back that explained this phenomenon Basically every PC sold in Europe in the past 6 to 7 years has a DVD drive, but that's not the case in the US.

Its all about the cheese, or in this case money! I thought we rehashed this when D3 first came out. We learned it costs extra for a dvd master, so a lot of companies only go with the least common factor.

If I was a company who was concerned about market factors I could see the point. It's probably a good chance that Q4 won't have those problems. So making a DVD makes sense and will please most people.

As far as Europe is concerned it would be nice to see some evidence as to just how many dvd drives shipped with computers. I find it hard to believe that more drives were shipped in EU than in North Americia. I bet the numbers of dvd drives shipped in the US is much higher then shipped in the EU.

Those dvd drives must be going somewhere! Also don't most people know what they have in their systems. You mean a person is going to spend 50 bucks, and can't afford another 20 dollars for a dvd drive.

I will take the grandma arguement that grandma bought grand kiddie a game and did not know its format. I will also consider that mama, or daddy did not fell that a dvd drive was needed when they ordered their Dells, Gateways and left it off thinking it will save them a little cash. But the option has been available for a long time, and saying that people refused to buy that option is a totally different story.

Like I said I would like to see the numbers of dvd drives shipped in North America compared to the EU, I bet its much higher in North America then in the EU.

There was a survey mentioned by computer games megazine. But I couldn't find my copy any more.
