whig,
The X server wouldn't start if the power connector was missing (unless he was using an override option, which he's not, based on his bug report). PC_Chris, Have you verified that you're using the most recent BIOS for your motherboard? Also, does your friend have the same hardware as you? Also, while this may not be the ideal solution, have you considered testing a different distribution, just for debugging purposes? thanks, Lonni |

Alright, you're not going to believe this... I nearly don't. After wracking my brains for a week on this, it turns out whig was right! (Actually, I figured it out on a hunch myself right before whig's posting, but whig still deserves credit as his guess was correct!) Apparently the cable must have came unplugged when I recently moved my PC... how crazy. It even has a built-in speaker to warn you if the power is unplugged, and never sounded. The drivers also never complained. (???) The craziest part is that Linux was still ROCK SOLID the entire time -- a true testament to the stability of the OS. As for my friend's system, his video card just didn't like that particular driver revision. Rolled back to 7667, works perfectly. Thanks for all your troubleshooting, and my apologies for dragging you guys through the mud with me.
Best Regards, -Chris |
