nforce4 friendly distro?

Check my sig for system specs

ive tried installing fc4 and the latest ubuntu but i keep having some problems w/ my nic. the primary is detected but hangs on dhcp aquisition of ip and the secondary isnt recognized at all. ive been out of the linux thing for a while (since i went the nforce4 route back in feb or march) so im not really proficient enough to get this back up and running w/ ease.

anyone know of a 32 bit distro that should install everything during initial install?

(p.s. dont say gentoo i cant really tie up my pc for 6 hours as im completley unfamiliar with that distro, something rpm or .deb based is preferred in my case i think)

Have you flashed the BIOS?
Or do you still have the original one?

tried both the f6 and latest f9 bios so far i believe my board shipped w/ the f6 bios

Hardware support is not distro specific. Install the latest kernel and wham you have the best support for your hardware.

Hey there

What are you NICs chipsets? I'm betting you've got one gigabit and one standard 10/100 ethernets, you can always resort to installing the latest version of forceware for Linux to install at least the NIC part. You'll at least have one running. Then you can install the latest kernel.

It's still up to the kernel. If your distro doesn't have an up to date kernel, rebuild
the installer with the latest kernel update.

Yes, but being an nForce4 based board, he can resort to install nvnet to get his NIC to work in his current kernel, so he can connect to the Internet and download the new one

Or he could get either the .rpm or the .deb (for Fedora or Ubuntu) from Windows (assuming dual-boot here) and then install it under Linux.
